At a distance of 13.5 km from Igatpuri and 59 km from Nashik, Vihigaon waterfall is a seasonal waterfalls situated at Vihigaon village in Thane district of Maharashtra. This is one of the best natural waterfalls of Maharashtra and also a popular weekend getaway from Mumbai and Nashik. Vihigaon Falls is a monsoon fed waterfall known for its natural vista. The falls is cascading down from a height of about 120 feet into a pool. Also known as Ashoka Waterfall, the Vihigaon Waterfall is located in deep forest. The waterfall is amazing and the way to waterfall consists of a small hiking through hilly forest and visitors may get a chance of bird watching. There are some water activities also such water rappelling. At the top of the fall some kind of metal gate is made to stop falling rocks in the pool that's make it one of the safest waterfall. The waterfall is an ideal spot for rappelling. In monsoon, this waterfall gives the adventurers an opportunity to rappel in the middle of the thick forest. This perfect adventure weekend getaway can take visitors far from the city life and gives a refreshing experience under the lap of nature. @gopro @goproin Ashoka falls is situated in Vihigaon village in Thane district at a distance of around 2 hrs drive from Thane. Some of the salient points of this place: 1. This comes in way to Igatpuri, you need to take a detour, before Kasari ghat to reach this location. Use your GPS to reach this location since, this waterfall is situated at a not so prominent cut on the left side of the road. 2. There is an entry chage of 10 rs per person or 25 rs per car 3. Parking is there but as expected it is not so organized, you have to be very cautious to park the vehicles. 4. The descent to the waterfall is bit risky and not suitable for small kids, old persons ,heavily build individuals or people suffering from vertigo. The same is steep and rocky and the situation is more bad post rains when they become very slippery. 5. Depth of water post approaching the waterfall can go upto 5 ft. There are rocks just below the waterfall where you can sit and relax. There you can sit and enjoy the feeling of water coming all over you. This was a truly amazing experience. 6. This is indeed one of the fascinating waterfall in close proximity to Mumbai/Thane with a proper waterfall and a natural pondbelow. 7. The climb back is also bit treacherous and require major control and coordination. #gopro #goprohero #goproIndia #goproworld #OnGoogleMaps #waterfall #iger #weekendgetaway #weekend #selfie #igatpuri #ashoka #mumbai_uncensored #MyClick #travelgram #Mumbai #Thane #Maharashtra #Uniqueplace #longdrive #travellife #travel #travelphotography #traveller #goprophotography_ #StillFromSP

Ashoka Waterfall, also known as Vihigaon Falls, is a popular monsoon destination near Mumbai and Nashik, known for its scenic beauty and adventure activities. The waterfall, which drops about 120 feet, is located in a dense forest and offers a refreshing escape from city life. Visitors can enjoy nature walks, photography, and even water rappelling, with some private groups offering the activity for a fee. The waterfall is easily accessible via a short hike through the forest, but the descent can be steep and rocky, so it's advisable to wear appropriate footwear. The waterfall is particularly stunning during the monsoon season, with a powerful cascade of water creating a misty atmosphere. The pool at the base of the falls is a great spot for swimming and relaxation. While the area is generally safe, caution is advised, especially when navigating the rocks near the waterfall and in the pond below. The waterfall is also known for being a filming location for the movie "Asoka," adding to its popularity. Overall, Ashoka Waterfall provides a memorable experience for those seeking a natural retreat and thrilling adventure.

Ashoka Waterfall, Vihigaon — Nature’s Hidden Gem in Maharashtra

Tucked away in the serene village of Vihigaon, near Igatpuri in Maharashtra, lies one of the region’s most beautiful and underrated natural attractions — Ashoka Waterfall, locally known as Vihigaon Waterfall. Surrounded by lush greenery and dense forests of the Western Ghats, this cascading beauty becomes especially mesmerizing during the monsoon season, when the entire landscape transforms into a vibrant, emerald paradise.

The waterfall gained its popular name ‘Ashoka Waterfall’ after a few scenes from the Bollywood film ‘Ashoka’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, were shot here. Ever since, it’s become a favorite weekend getaway for nature lovers, trekkers, and adventure seekers from nearby cities like Mumbai, Nashik, and Pune.

Key Highlights: • The waterfall drops from a height of about 120 feet, creating a majestic curtain of water perfect for photography and relaxation. • It’s one of the best spots for monsoon rappelling in Maharashtra, attracting thrill-seekers during the rainy season. • The surrounding village trails and dense woods make for a beautiful short trek, especially for beginners. • It’s a popular picnic destination for families and friends looking to escape city chaos for a day amidst nature.

How to Reach: Located about 13 kilometers from Igatpuri and roughly 3 hours from Mumbai, the best way to reach Vihigaon is by road. The nearest railway station is Igatpuri. From there, local transport options like taxis or auto-rickshaws are available to reach the base village.

Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to visit Ashoka Waterfall is during the monsoon months (June to September) when the water flow is at its peak and the surrounding landscape is at its greenest. It’s advisable to avoid the post-monsoon dry months if you’re specifically visiting for the waterfall experience.

Tips for Visitors: • Wear comfortable trekking shoes as the path can get slippery. • Carry rainwear and waterproof bags during monsoon. • There are small local stalls near the waterfall selling tea, corn, and snacks, but it’s better to carry your essentials. • Ensure safety while rappelling and always go with professional instructors if opting for adventure activities.

In Summary: If you’re craving a short, nature-filled escape with a touch of adventure, Ashoka Waterfall in Vihigaon is a perfect choice. It beautifully blends natural beauty, tranquility, and thrill, making it one of Maharashtra’s...
