Vishnu Varah Temple Majholi — Attraction in Majholi

"Great place, poorly managed"

When we first heard of this place we searched the net & found it near jabalpur. It is around 47kms from jabalpur, that can be reached by a state/national highway. Journey by the state highway was memorable & can be preferred over national one which is usually filled with traffic. On arrival u will not believe that this place has got so much of archeological & mytheological importance. Entrance gate is fitted with a tap where everyone washes hands & feet making the place messy. Animals and beggers are found roaming inside the premises. A second gate leads u to the temple proper. Here also improper & haphazard arrangement of idols are seen. Only once u enter the main gate u will be mesmerized to see such a beautiful & glorious statue of lord Varah. Around 108 god's & goddess are incarnated over it. Story says that after being trapped in the net of a fisherman from the pond nearby the idol which was palm sized started increasing in size. Lord Vishnu told him to place it in a temple where proper pujas can be performed regularly. As days passed it kept on increasing to the present size. But now the growth has stopped. You can also note many idols and sculptures of ancient time in the campus. It is said to be of 11th century. Later on we came to know that the place is managed by government. विष्णु वराह मंदिर — मझौली, जबलपुर

मूर्ति के शरीर पर देव, मुनि, सिद्ध, गंधर्व की परतें नक्काशी गई हैं, जो इसे खुद में पुरातत्विक दृष्टि से खास बनाती हैं ।

आकार और कला की अद्भुतता

मूर्ति काले पत्थर की बनी है और इसके आकार को लेकर एक प्रसिद्ध लोककथा प्रचलित है: कहा जाता है कि यह मूर्ति शुरू में बहुत छोटी थी, लेकिन समय के साथ बढ़ती गई। अंततः पुजारियों ने सोने की कील ठोंककर इसे रोकने का उपाय किया ।

प्रतिमा लगभग 8 feet ऊँची, 10 feet लंबी, और 5 feet चौड़ी है—यह आकार इसे विश्वभर में अनूठा बनाता है ।

पुरातत्वी इसे कल्चुरी कालीन शैली का उत्कृष्ट नमूना मानते हैं ।

भक्तों का विश्वास है कि सिर्फ मंदिर में आना भी उनकी मनोकामना पूर्ण करता है, इसीलिए लोग सुबह ही अपने मनोकामना के साथ यहां आते हैं ।

जहाँ यह मंदिर जबलपुर से लगभग 45 किमी दूर, मझौली कस्बे के बीचोबीच स्थित है, वहीं यह आसपास के अन्य शहरों से भी आसानी से पहुँचा जा सकता है ।

Very nice temple, located in small town of Manjholi near Jabalpur. It a temple of its kind, there are very few temple of Varah Avatar of Vishnu Ji. The temple is well maintained, the priest and care taker lives around and takes care of temple management. If you are using Google Maps for navigation make sure to search for Manjholi police station first and after reaching start navigation for VishnuBarah temple.
