Nongkhnum Island Beach — Attraction in Meghalaya

Nongkhnum River Island is the biggest river island in the Indian state of Meghalaya and the second biggest river island in Asia, after Majuli Island in Assam. The island is formed by the river Wah Kynshi on the west and south and river Namiliang on the north and east. The island is located in the West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya at a distance of about 14 Km from the district headquarters Nongstoin and at a distance of about 63 km from Mairang Sub‐Division.

The island contains a sandy beach as well as two waterfalls, the Weina Falls and the Langshiang Falls. Tourist footfall remains low, primarily owing to poor infrastructure in the area.

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati is considered to be the most convenient airport for travelling to Meghalaya. It is located at a distance of about 153km from the district head-quarter, Nongstoin, which is the closest town to the river island. Besides this, another minor airport is located at Umroi and is about 119km from Nongstoin.

Guwahati Railway Station is the most convenient railway station for travelling to Meghalaya. It is located at a distance of about 184 km from the district head-quarter, Nongstoin, the closest town to the river island.

Public taxis are available from Nongstoin which is about 15 km from Nongkhnum...

Located about 105 kms from Shillong, it's a less frequented place but extremely beautiful and scenic. The road once you will leave the Tura National Highway at Nongstoin will become bumpy and then full off uneven and pebbled road for over 13 kms. The road is being repaired but might take a year as monsoons have already set in. The place has been reasonably developed well by the administration in the sense that you have Gazebos, washrooms, cottages iron bridge to connect to the river island. Its lush green during summers. There's a breath taking waterfall about 500 m away. You can enjoy boat ride and fishing too. This place is good for camping overnight for the more adventurous. If you hv come all the way till this place don't miss out on visiting the Kshaid Weiner or the Rainbow waterfall which is close by. Aword of caution..thers no connectivity from Jio or Vodafone at this place. No shops selling water or eatables too so pls stock up enroute and drive in a 4 wheeler with a higher road clearance. A must...

Very attractive for tourist.. Everything is fine but road is under construction in Some area else very beautiful place fascinating.. You can also camping there.. One thing to remember buy everything from town before you reach Nongkhnum because only few shop are available there. You won't get everything that you required except some from there ... Spending time with family and friends is no problem ..
