It is unfortunate to find that such a lively and reverberating shaktipith where left thigh of Ma Sati had fallen is still a sort of unidentified place among the hindus despite the fact that kamakhya shaktipith is within 160 km distance with very nice road network .One may visit this place either directly from Gauhati or from Shillong.Importance of this temple may be well understood by the fact that the the people of this area are known as jaintias and the geographical area is called jaintis hills on the name of ma jayanti .A seren and enchanting place full of natural beauty.A good inspection bungalow of p.w.d road north division jowai is just beside the temple which may be used on nominal and meager govt fee.In this temple puja is performed by Maharastrian brahmins right since centuries dating back 1400 plus A.D.People say that the present pujari is 31 st generation of that clan. The temple was in a very shabby state earlier but the Ramkrishna society Sohra(chetra punji} renovated the campus beautifully some year back but left the maintenance work since then. It is a great pleasure to witness the grandeur of this temple which speaks volumes of the power of mighty Ma who invokes thr necessity of renovation in her children and the temple gets its majestic appearance once more..The priest resides in the residence for him in the temple campus it self and very amicably performs puja for the bhaktas. However the pilgrims should come with puja samagries as these are not available here,Of late it has been learnt that the one small shop has come up in the seren temple complex to cater the puja materials needs of devotees.which needs to...

One of the Shaktipeeths and the most sacred place for Sanatan Dharma followers, the Shaktipeeth better known as "Jayanti Shaktipeeth" is located in Nartiang village of West Jaintia Hills, situated about 65 kilometres away from Shillong. The journey from Shillong to the Shaktipeeth is a beautiful one. Amid lovely sceneries laden with pine trees and huge farms, we spotted the tribal people and their lovely kids in almost every nook and corner of the hills. As we neared the temple, the divinity of the temple was apparent as it was spread across the area and the serenity and calm said it all. The temple stood there, shining in all it's glory, surrounded by a lot of innocent, little kids, trees and little houses. The experience in the temple was surreal. Simple and extremely divine, the Pandit welcomed us with a warm smile and performed the Puja patiently. We were not only offered prasad but I'm sure, a million blessings from Mata herself. We had the best time of our lives as we did not want to leave but left, feeling full and happy to our heart's content. The Shaktipeeth is one place I will want to visit again and again. Sometimes, it is not the beauty of a place but the feeling that the place has to offer. Ample parking space is available...

Nartiang Durga Mandir in Meghalaya is a highly revered 600-year-old temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, and a significant pilgrimage site ¹. It attracts devotees from across India, particularly during Durga Puja ¹ ². While I couldn't find a specific rating, here are some key highlights:

Historical Significance: Built by King Jaso Manik in the 17th century, the temple showcases a unique blend of Hindu and Khasi traditions ¹ ³. Deity: The main deity is Goddess Durga, with three idols, including a massive monolithic deity and a metal idol with eight arms ³. Festivals: Durga Puja is the main festival, celebrated over four days, with a banana plant dressed as the Goddess and ceremoniously submerged in the Myntdu River ¹ ³. Architecture: The temple's strategic location and presence of ancient cannons indicate its historical importance as part of a Jaintia Kings' fort ¹ ². Accessibility: Located 64 km from Shillong, the temple can be reached by car, with a rest house nearby for accommodations ³.

Overall, Nartiang Durga Mandir is a must-visit destination for its cultural, historical, and spiritual...

Unlike Durga temples, I have seen in West Bengal, here the architectural design/construction of the 'Mandir' (Temple) was completely different. The architecture is a blend of a temple and a pagoda. Located amidst the serene Jaintia Hills this 500 years old Durga Temple is home to "Maa Jainteshwari" or "Jayanti" with "Kramadishwar" as her Bhairava. This is a very sacred place (Shaktipeeth) for Hindus as Devi Sati's "Chin" (Left Thigh) is believed to have fallen at Nartiang. It is easily accessible if you can hire a cab from Shillong which may take you almost upto the entrance of the Durga Temple. The last few hundred meters of the road leading to this nice temple are not paved. The temple itself is small but beautiful. The Shiva (Bhairava) Temple however might be a bit difficult to reach for the elderly or disabled as it is located higher up a steep slope, where a road is under construction. Ever visiting Meghalaya, don't forget to visit and get the essence of "Shivshakti". Readers there was never in this temple human sacrifice given to appease Goddess, if you come across such vague communication.

King Dhan Manik had made Nartiang the summer capital of the Jaintia #Kingdom about 600 years ago. One night, the goddess appeared to him in a dream and informed him of the significance of the place and asked him to build a temple in Her honour. Following this, the Jainteshwari temple in Nartiang was established. The strategic location of the temple and presence of weapons like cannons suggests that the temple must have been part of a #fort of the Jaintia Kings.

This temple is one of the 51 Shakti peeths in northeast India. The rituals done here are a mix of Hindu and Khasi tradition and the main patron of the temple is a local chieftain known as Syiem. Durga Puja celebration is the best time to visit as we can witness the tradition of this temple. During the reign if the Jaintia king human sacrifices were carried out but was abolished after the arrival or the British and now goats are sacrificed. Also the present priest is the a 29th generation of the Maratha priest whom the king has introduced from Maharashtra. The temple is less popular and attracts very less tourist or devotees when compared to other Shakti peeths.
