This is one of the most underrated temples. I read about the temple in a WhatsApp message and decided to visit it during my next trip. I traveled 200 KMs and reached Mehkar. The roads were blocked because of some political rally. We were diverted to a circuitous route which was under construction. Finally reached the town but the roads nearby temple were very narrow and I started thinking whether the temple would be as good as it was described on the WhatsApp message. I was pleasantly surprised when I reached the temple. Beautiful structure and large space surrounding the temple makes it very peaceful. As it is still not very well known, you can enjoy the serene atmosphere if you are spiritually inclined. Once you enter the sanctum sanctorum and see the idol of Lord Balaji, you would be left spellbound. Magnificent idol carved out in black stone will leave you speechless. There are 19 smaller idols carved around the Lord which include Dashavatar, Jay, Vijay and Goddess Mahalakshmi. The temple is simple and the management committee try to do everything possible to maintain it. They also serve lunch to visitors coming from out of station. This is a relatively unknown temple outside Vidarbha region of Maharashtra (also known to few in other parts of Maharashtra). Devotees from Vidarbha worship Shri Balaji at Mehkar and Shri Balaji at Washim (District Washim, Maharashtra) and consider shri balajis at both places very auspicious and फलदायी. Mehkar and Wahim are neighbouring towns, 50-60 kms apart.
Darshan at this temple (& also at Balaji Temple in Washim) is very easy and quick. One can spend as much time as needed in front of main idol and can also enter गर्भग्रीह without any issues / challenges.
In fact, both Mehkar and Washim are just 90-95 kms away from Gajanan Maharaj Temple, Shegaon ( max. 90-100 mins drive through well developed and empty road network). Hence after visiting Shegaon both Balaji temples can be covered by devotees in...
