Nachiyar Temple Mangala Saneeswarar Temple*
There is a temple called Ramanathaswamy in Thirunaraiyur (Nachiyar Temple) near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. There is another small shrine inside this temple specifically for Shani Bhagwan and his family. The main deity in the temple is Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Ramanathaswamy. His consort Parvati Devi graces as Parvadavarthini.
Said to be the protector of life, Shani Bhagwan resides with his two wives Mantha Devi and Jesta Devi, and his sons Kulikan, who determines time, and Manthi, who determines life, as a family, in Thirunaraiyur. Unlike any other temple in India, he resides with his family as Mangala Sani in the Nachiyar Temple in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu.
On the Kumbakonam-Tiruvarur road, about 9 km from Kumbakonam, in front of Nachiyar Temple, there is a temple in Thirunaraiyur, an ancient Shiva temple built during the Chola period, Sri Parvadavarthini Sametha Ramanathaswamy Temple. In the prakaram, Lord Shani, who is worshipped as the Lord of the Navagrahas, resides with his two wives, Jhestadevi, Mandadevi, and two children, Manthi and Kuligan, as a family, and has a separate shrine as a family and is seen as the one who grants wishes to those who pray to him as a Mangala Shani. He is seen with his own flagpole, altar and crow vehicle, which cannot be seen anywhere else. In this temple, there is no separate flagpole, altar or altar for Lord Ramanathaswamy, only a Nandi vehicle. Legend has it that Emperor Dasharatha came to this temple to cure his illness, bathed in the holy water, worshipped and was cured of his illness. Lord Shani can be seen in the shrine in the form of worshipping his idol. Legend has it that Lord Sri Rama, after killing Ravana, worshipped this temple with his father Dasharatha on his way to Ayodhya, realizing the greatness of this temple. Sri Ramanatha Swamy and Parvadavardini are present in separate shrines as they are in Rameswaram.
There is also a Hanuman Linga in the prakaram because Hanuman was worshipped. On the Navagraha stage here, Lord Shani's father Surya, along with his two wives Ushadevi and Prakyushyadevi, blesses him. Special abhishekam worship is performed for Lord Shani every day at the...
Read moreA very historical place, only one of its kind in India with Sri Shaneeswara Bhagavan with his family showering his blessings as Mangala Shaneeswarar. A very comfortable visit by road. I travelled from Trichy . Called the priest Shri GnanSekaran beforehand by phone and he clarified lots of details before the actual temple visit .You need to visit the temple 30 min before the guligai time as in the tamizh panchangam. the pooja is conducted only during guligai. The fee is Rs 800 for a puja. in case you went alone , you can do sankalpa for family members who could not accompany you .You will be instructed on the temple procedures before the puja by the priest. I recommend you go atleast 60 min before start of guligai to manage crowd and buy the ticket or pay the puja dakshina as advised by Shri Gnanasekaran. Note : Guligai is the time in panchanga where you should do things that are only good and auspicious as anything done in Guligai will repeat itself and recur.

Read more👍👍 The legend goes that King Dasaratha was once ruling the entire world. Saturn was to make its transit to Rohini star after Krithigai. King Dasaratha was informed by sage Vasishta that this transit by Saturn to Rohini would be devastating for the whole world as it would be punctuated with famine and drought causing immense hardship to all the living beings. He asked Dasaratha to prevent it.
Dasaratha instantaneously set out on his chariot and arrived at the star, Rohini. He saw Saturn moving in his golden chariot in the direction of Rohini and tried to stop Saneeswaran by force. Saneeswaran, though impressed with the King’s valour said that just His looks can destroy anybody. However, king Dasaratha could not be harmed because of the powers that he had accumulated through severe penance. Dasaratha requested Saneeswaran to spare Bhoomadevi and all the creatures living on it. Saneeswaran was pleased by the King’s concern for his people. He asked Dasaratha to go to Thirunaraiyur and have a bath at the temple tank to have his wish fulfilled. King Dasaratha did accordingly and Saneeswaran gave a darshan to Dasaratha and agreed to his prayer. Consequently, Thirunaraiyur is an important place to worship Saneeswaran. This is a Sani dosha...
