Kisama Heritage, one of the most prominent place for Nagaland is famous for the Hornbill Festival celebrated by the various Tribes of Nagas of Nagaland, Nagas of Arunachal, Nagas of Manipur. It comprises showcasing the rich culture and the ethnicity of the whole Naga tribe who are the Mongolian race. The Hornbill Festival is an annual festival celebrated from 1 to 10 of December in the Northeastern Indian state of Nagaland. The festival represents all ethnic groups of Nagaland for which it is also called the Festival of Festivals. It is not my first experience and might not be the last either. It is really astonishing and marvelous how rich and vibrant our Naga tribe is. It's so mesmerizing to see young talented people from different parts of greater Nagalim. I hope we Nagas continue to live in the same manner with peace and prosperity. Not much development has been made so far since its early days. I still find we lack so much with proper parking spaces and proper roads for the convenience of the general public. To tell the truth, goods sold in the heritage might force you to sell your kidneys. It's too expensive and I wonder if their motive is to fool the general public or reasonable enough to make things that expensive. The whole globe knows of the value of our Naga culture and all the products of Nagaland but as per my own experience, I find all the foreigners too complain about the pricing of every product. All the traditional attire and all the ornaments cost a little too much for any visitor to spend money on procuring them. This year we have many stalls and a food court. All those stalls and food court cost more than the normal price of a kidney. Seriously, I know you all prepare the best food and the best fast foods but that doesn't mean you have to charge more than the quality and quantity of the item. It's a place for everyone to come and experience the heritage whether rich or poor. Sadly, things have changed now. Heritage is more or less a place for rich people only. For poor people if you can afford the entry fee, I'm sorry that you will be compelled to fast for the whole day. People opening up stalls and all, please be more reasonable, your selfish motives stink at the...

Kisama is 12km from Kohima on the National Highway number 39. The gentle slope at the base of a steep mountain peak is the venue for the famed Hornbill Festival.

The Heritage Villages is designed in the form of an ancient Naga village to give an authentic feel of a true Naga village and the experience of traveling back in time.

After converting into Christians, Nagas have abandoned most of their tribal culture and traditions. It is only recently that they are trying to revive their past.

The Hornbill festival was first initiated by the State Government. The festival has grown extremely in the span of a decade. Today the Hornbill Festival is one of the fastest growing festivals in India and attracts foreigners as well as Indians. It is now organized by the State Tourism and Art and Culture Departments every year from December 1 to December 7.

The Heritage Village is designed in a traditional fashion to reflect the heritage of each tribe (Naga Village) alive. Morungs of different Naga tribes are build here. The Morung is a key institution of the Nagas, and also was the center of the social life of all the unmarried male members of the society. It is the place for the young boys where they learn about social practices and beliefs from their elders.Nagas lived in tribes and villages during their head hunting days and showed exceptional bonding values within one village or tribe. The Nagas lived in group and hunted in groups for the simple reason of survival. Some scholars have compared the administration of the Nagas to the autonomous Greek villages. Their only form of learning in an education deprived era (no written script, or proper form of education) was the Morung where they would come together and learn different kinds of skills, even head hunting. Each village has separate Morung’s for men and women.

Please visit Kisama for an immersive "Naga...

The Hornbill Festival, hosted in the enchanting Kisama Heritage Village, is a cultural odyssey that transports visitors into the heart of Naga heritage. Nestled amidst the picturesque hills, the village transforms into a living canvas of indigenous traditions during this celebration. The festival grounds in Kisama are a visual spectacle, with intricately designed traditional Naga huts forming a backdrop to the vibrant festivities. Each hut represents a Naga tribe, offering a glimpse into their unique customs, artifacts, and daily life. The air is filled with the melodic beats of tribal music, creating a rhythmic symphony that resonates throughout the village. The festival's centerpiece, the Naga Morung, is a cultural hub where visitors can interact with locals, witness traditional craftsmanship, and engage in the age-old art of storytelling. The lively atmosphere is further heightened by the captivating performances of Naga dance troupes, showcasing the diversity and dynamism of their cultural expressions. Kisama Heritage Village doesn't merely host a festival; it becomes a cultural time capsule where the past and present coalesce. The authenticity of the setting, coupled with the warmth of Naga hospitality, makes the Hornbill Festival in Kisama a truly immersive and unforgettable experience.
