Nagar Van Park – 3 Stars for Greenery, the Rest is Disheartening

This review is an honest attempt to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the plight of Nagar Van Park.

In a densely packed city like Delhi, the park holds immense potential with its ample green space. Sadly, that potential is being wasted due to extremely poor maintenance.

Despite boards indicating significant funds being spent on upkeep, the reality on the ground is far from satisfactory: • Littering is rampant. • People walk with pets, smoke, spit, and completely ignore the rules mentioned on display boards. • Dustbins are burned, possibly due to careless disposal of lit beedis or cigarettes. • The metal mesh boundaries are broken. • Some individuals have even claimed specific areas for themselves. • The water point exists, but no cleaning or maintenance schedule is displayed for the tank.

One enters the park hoping for peace, a breath of fresh air, or perhaps a quiet walk to improve health and well-being—but ends up feeling punished instead.

Repeated attempts to involve visitors in voluntary cleaning efforts have failed. Most simply say, “It’s not our job.”

Yes, maintaining such a large space is challenging—especially when people are uncooperative. But it can be done, if monitored and managed properly.

I strongly urge the authorities to: • Enforce park rules strictly, • Penalize violators, • Repair the infrastructure, • Install CCTV if needed, • And engage local communities or NGOs for regular upkeep.

This place is having childhood memories. It was used to be a busy green belt having space in between the eucalyptus trees. Students from the adjoining school, where I took my primary education, used to play cricket there and lot of shor sharabaa was there. I also learnt driving scooter here in early 90s. Now, this has been converted to well managed by the forest department with the cooperation of local residents. Tracks are in good condition with lot of green plants and trees. People come here at 5 am in morning till 10 am last according to the environment and temperature. I also met my classmate after 34 years here. No one comes alone in this park because Nasedi is troubled by bald men, people are afraid of them.
