Gandhi MinarA Must-Visit Attraction in Sambalpur

I recently visited the Gandhi Minar in Sambalpur, and it was an unforgettable experience. This 64-foot-tall tower offers stunning 360-degree views of the Hirakud Dam and the surrounding landscape. The minar's architectural beauty is impressive, and its historical significance is palpable.

Key Highlights:

Panoramic Views: The Gandhi Minar provides breathtaking views of the Hirakud Dam, reservoir, and the Barapahad forests. Architectural Beauty: The minar's design is impressive, with a spiral staircase leading to the top. Historical Significance: The minar is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and serves as a tribute to his principles and dedication to India's independence movement. Garden and Surroundings: The minar is surrounded by a beautiful garden with seasonal plants and big trees, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers.

Tips for Visitors:

Best Time to Visit: Winter months (October to February) offer the best views, but the rainy season can also be a great time to visit. Ropeway: Take the ropeway from Jawaharlal Nehru Garden to Gandhi Minar for a unique experience (cost: Rs 60 per person). Accessibility: The minar is accessible by road, and parking is available for four-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Overall Experience:

Firstly remember that you can't see actual Dam view from this minar. You have to go Jawahar Minar to see real view of gates of Hirakud Dam. Gandhi Minar is a good place to explore the beauty of nature and watching the beauty of Hirakud Dam.

There is no entry fees. You have to book ropeway there when u reached. Price is around Rs. 90 for bothway ride. You have to wait around 30 minutes to 60 minutes for your turn. It's can change in peak hours. Ropeway close time is 4.30 PM.

Food and water facilities also available. Don't forget to bring some foods. At the top of Gandhi Minar there is a food shop. You can eat ice-cream, snacks, cold drinks.

There is a beautiful garden/park at Gandhi Minar. The entry fee is Rs. 5 . Autos and Buses are available to reach Gandhi Minar from Ainthapali Square.

The views from Gandhi Minar is just mesmerizing. To reach the top you have to take ticket. Price of ticket is Rs. 5. You can go by walk from the start of minar if you don't want to go by ropeway.

However I would suggest to experience the ropeway as it will give a dynamic experience. The top of the Minar rotates thus enabling everyone to get a 360 degree view. This is fascinating and thrilling at the same time. I would highly suggest you to visit this place.

The entry time is 8 AM and Closing time is 4.30 PM. Don't book anything in advance. You can book everything there because rain is a main factor.

Pricing Details: Ropeway: 80-90 Rupees (per person) for 2 ways. Tower entry fee: 5 Rupees Jawahar Park Entry Fee: 5 Rupees

Combined, the two spots do complete justice if you choose to visit Sambalpur as a 2 day tourist. The Dam is a birder's paradise and one can see most winter migratory water fowl that visit Odisha during this season.
