Markandi Beach — Attraction in Odisha

A lesser discovered beach in Berhampur (actually in Konisi). This beach is to the South-West of IISER Berhampur (A science institution of National Importance). The beach is connected to the private beach of IISER where a lot of outsiders are not allowed. Ultimately this place is very less crowded for the majority of the time and you can take you time enjoying there.

I did a cycle ride to the place and there are two routes via Google Maps. One will take you through the IISER main campus and you can observe the building of a beautiful campus and the other route will avoid this confrontation. If you do not want any problem you can take the latter route.

The waves are slow and the beach is connected to a shallow river where you can take bath and enjoy with friends. The current is safe for any adult to swim and there is less chance of drowning. The locals are good people and you can leave your less valuable things on the beach and not worry about it getting stolen.

Google maps may show a slight error as there is a small village there and narrow roads, which makes the GPS act up. Just ask the locals and they will guide you. Best time is either early morning or anytime in the evening.

I would not recommend going there alone as in case of drowning there is no one is to save you....

This place is around 20 km from Berhampur city. You can go via Tulu road. It's famous for delta. In simple words delta means an area of flat land shaped like a triangle where a river divides into smaller rivers as it goes into the sea. Probably we were not finding here any dividend river but the river merge with sea and forming a natural beauty with mixed environment which you can't feel in a sea beach. Just the vibe and environment a little different and heart touching. Just love the place. If i have the power i can make it as tourist place. Though it's not well developed but itself have all the natural environment with warmth of beauty. There is also a temple near by called Markandi temple where lord Shiva diety present.
