Katraj Lake is the place where one can peacefully sit and relax during early morning or Evening. We have planned our one day outing towards Katraj. First we had been to Katraj Narayani Dham temple, then visited Zoo Park from 09:30 to 01:00 pm. After that we reached to Katraj Lake Park where we had Picnic Lunch as we had bought homemade food. Enjoyed some time here in Katraj lake park then went to Jain temple. there we have spent more than one hour and then started towards Parvati hills. But due to traffic and time crunch we have skipped the same and reached back to home by 06:00 pm.
Interesting Facts about Katraj Lake: Katraj lake, which spans 42 acres is located near the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological park, which is one of the most beautiful lakes in the city Pune. This lake is Developed and maintained by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Katraj lake is an artificial reservoir and has pleasant jogging track around it. Sardar Naro Appaji Tulshibagwale who is also known as Nana Saheb Peshwa, built Katraj Lake in the year 1750. He built this lake so that water could be supplied to the residence and Shaniwar Wada. The lake has an island in the middle, which one can approach by boat. One of the most beautiful attractions of this lake is the incredible statue of Shivaji Maharaj, which is situated in mid of this Island along with a fluttering flag of India. Also there is Park on the bank of Katraj lake which is maintained very beautiful. best option to relax some time. You can plan walking along the green trail specially in the mornings and Evenings which will be nice experience. You can Visit the Mid island here by travelling in Boat which is good experience specially if you are visiting here with Children's. Here you will enjoy a 360 degree view of the lake and the surrounding area. Bird Watching is another thing you can plan here. its all your luck to find different birds here. This lake attracts many local and migratory birds. You can see birds around the water supply pipelines, Swimming in the water and as usual on the tree branches. Katraj Lake offers a beautiful view of the sun Set. You can sit on the shores and Enjoy the Sun set here. If you are planning your trip in the evening you can enjoy Sunset and then stay there to watch the short musical fountain show, accompanied by colorful laser lights. Kudos to the person who formulated the idea and developed this park! People can jog, walk around the lake and there's a substantial footfall here in early mornings and evenings. Enough seating areas where you can, ponder while looking at the calm lake. There are ducks, fishes and more birds, as a part of the lake's ecosystem. People need to be more cognizant and take care not to pollute the surroundings. Sadly we saw a dead tortoise one morning. There are 2 Open gyms - one exclusively for Females. There's a library too, hosted in a wada-like designed building, aptly called 'Patil Wada'. Beside the lake and the jogging track, there's also another garden. This is much less frequented, possibly because few people are even aware of it. It's lush-green and the tree canopy is pretty dense. A nice place to take deep breaths of fresh air.
