The Punjab State War Memorial in Amritsar is a poignant tribute to the soldiers from Punjab who made the ultimate sacrifice in various wars and conflicts. Visitors often describe the experience as deeply moving and sobering, as they pay homage to the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers. The memorial's architecture and exhibits serve as powerful reminders of the cost of war and the importance of honoring those who served. Many visitors also express gratitude for the opportunity to learn about Punjab's rich military history and to reflect on the impact of war on communities and families. Overall, the Punjab State War Memorial tour provides a meaningful and educational experience for visitors of all age.

The Memorial is closed every Monday. The timing is from 10 A.M to 5P.M every day.

Punjab, the land of several valiant heroes and heroic stories, has always held a special place in the heart of the country. Amritsar held a prominent place in India's freedom struggle and was affected by several daunting events, such as the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, Operation Bluestar, and the partition of India.

One place commemorating the memories of the courage of the state is the Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum, Amritsar. A quaint place near the most important place of Amritsar, the Wagah Border, displays everything the heroes stood for and more.

The museum is a popular tourist destination in Amritsar due to its proximity to the international border between India and Pakistan, i.e. the Wagah border.

In addition to being a popular tourist site, the museum serves as a continuing motivation for young people and a reminder of the price paid for freedom.

Architecture of Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum Amritsar On a land measuring around three hectares, the Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum is situated on the outskirts of Amritsar, the holiest city in India.

The Punjab State War Heroes Memorial & Museum, which cost Rs 130 crore to construct, was opened in October 2016 by Parkash Singh Badal, the province's chief minister.

#Trivia: It was created by the New Delhi-based Indian architectural firm Kapoor and Associates.

It features a cutting-edge gallery where visitors can view Punjab's martial history and military campaigns. It was constructed using both traditional and modern architectural styles.

The central edifice of the stunning project is a 45 m high stainless steel sword that symbolises the power and bravery of the Punjabi people in defending their country during a time of need.

This famous building occupies a spherical platform encircled by water. On the memorial, erected at the height of 4 metres, you will find the names of around 3500 martyrs.

The sacrifices and brave acts from the time of the sixth Guru through the Kargil operations are shown in approximately 8 galleries. You can also see stunning visuals of the retired MiG-23 aircraft carrier ship, the INS Vikrant, and three tanks.

Nanakshahi bricks were used in the construction of the memorial's perimeter wall. Three different combat zones from the pre-British, British, and post-independent eras are reflected in the landscape.

As part of the tribute, it has a unique light and sound show. It boasts a 7D auditorium that allows visitors to experience various battle...

Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum showcases the fabulous Bravehearts of Punjab. The museum immortalizes the bravery of the soldiers of Punjab, displayed throughout with a spirit of patriotism. Built in both a traditional and modern architectural style, it houses a state-of-the-art gallery where Punjab's martial tradition and military campaigns can be viewed.

Numerous illustrations, photographs, paintings, artefacts, weapons and interactive panels can be found here, letting the tourists go back in time. The museum has a collection of photographs of the 1965 and 1971 war. A mural has been built to commemorate the work and pay tribute to the 21 Sikh soldiers who were martyred in the 1971 war.

Much like the Gobindgarh Fort, the walls are constructed with the Nanakshahi brick. Tourists can travel back 3 eras, through the pre-British, British and post-independence periods with the special light and sound show organised here. The 7D auditorium is a must-do experience during your visit here, transporting visitors to the war zones of the past.

With its proximity to the Indo Pak International border, the museum is a prime attraction for tourists before the Beating Retreat ceremony at the Wagah border. The chief appeal of this fascinating museum is the 45-metre stainless steel sword preserved at the centre of the place. The sword represents the strength and courage of the people defending the nation at the peak hour of war. The glorious sword is placed on a water body with 3500 martyr names inscribed on the memorial wall.

The decommissioned aircraft carrier ship MiG-23, INS Vikrant, and 3 tanks are also exhibited here. Not only does this place serve as a tourist destination, but the museum also stands as a constant source of inspiration for the youth and a reminder of the sacrifices for freedom.

A Powerful Tribute to the Brave – A Must-Visit Memorial The Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum is an extraordinary place that left me both humbled and inspired. Located near the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar, this museum is a powerful tribute to the brave soldiers of Punjab who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. The architecture of the memorial is striking — the soaring central sword sculpture and flame symbolize valor and honor. The museum itself is beautifully designed and very well maintained. Inside, it’s not just about reading history — it’s an immersive experience. From the moment you enter, you’re taken through various galleries that showcase Punjab’s rich military history, dating back to ancient times through to the modern Indian Armed Forces. The exhibits include authentic weapons, uniforms, medals, and detailed accounts of famous battles. The 7D theater is a highlight — it gives a goosebump-inducing reenactment of war scenes that makes you feel the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers in a very real way. One section that really moved me was the display of letters, photographs, and stories of individual martyrs. It puts faces and emotions to the names we often hear. It’s a reminder of the real people and families behind the headlines. The museum staff are helpful and respectful, and the overall environment encourages quiet reflection. It’s not just for history buffs — it's a place every Indian should visit to truly understand the price of our freedom. I’ve uploaded a few photos from my visit, but honestly, no image can capture the emotional depth of this place. Salute to the heroes of Punjab and India....
