ABOUT US
The establishment of the Birla Museum in the year 1954 at Pilani - a university town in Rajasthan known for technical education and situated about 200 km west of Delhi-marked the birth of the first museum of industry & technology in the country. It was then, as it is now, the only technological museum situated in a university campus in India. The Birla museum at Pilani is the only museum in the entire sub-continent, whose sponsorship is done privately by the Birla’s while the other museums which have later developed are all government aided. Till date we knew that museums are restricted to historic connotation of art, culture and tradition. However, the house of Birla’s felt that like history, science too should be exhibiting its progress and also showcase its discoveries for people to watch. The Birla’s were interested in showing the human race how science and technology has developed in India over years and how industries have led to a rapid growth, which is parallel to the development in other countries all over the world. There were quite a number of museums that were built in India which dealt with art, history and archaeology but there were hardly any which would deal with progress in the field of science and technology. Read moreThis is a must-visit in Pilani Jhunjhunu Rajasthan. Located adjacent to the main institute, this is India's first science museum. An unlike most museums, you don't have to just keep moving from one boring exhibit to the next. Here, you are encouraged to participate! Feel free to press buttons, turn knobs and change gears. You'll see how the exhibits light up, wheels start to rotate, machinery starts to move. It's all quite fun & fascinating. If you are lucky, you may be able to meet the walking and talking human-sized robot. The museum also has an activity hall. You can paddle on a cycle to generate electricity that will light up a bulb. You can solve different puzzles, or clap really hard to power a toy train. There is so much to do here, and it is a great learning experience for both kids and adults. The museum also has an artificial underground coal mine. Once inside, it doesn't seem every artificial. The tunnels are dimly lit, and the coal wagons move on tracks. It's quite an adventure for those who have never been inside mines before. I highly recommend this place. The interactive exhibits make the museum unique, enjoyable and highly...
