How ever the Linga(Sculpture) of Lord Shiva is more old than temple. The temple was built by descendants of Pandavas. It is said that the whole temple was built within one night. Some people says that the temple is incomplete since when it was structured, the priest of Linga waken up and thus the builders left it incomplete. There are many articles written on pillars of temple in ancient languages.

The devotees of Shiva from nearby places as well as distant cities come here for worship as they believe that Linga of Lord Shiva here is miraculous. A story is said about it that a long time ago, a cow used to come here and consecrate her milk to Lord Shiva. DEO SOMNATH On the banks of Som river, there is an old and beautiful Shiva temple called Deo Somnath built in the 12th century. Built of white stone, the temple has imposing turrets. One can see the sky from within the temple. Though there is a perfect adaptation of parts in the masonry, yet it gives the impression that individual stones are crumbling. The temple has 3 exits, one each in the east, the north and the south. The entrance gates are two storied The Garbha Garah has a high dome. In front of it is the Sabha Mandap - built on 8 majestic pillars. There are Twenty Torans of which four still exist. Others were destroyed by the flood waters of the Som. The idol of the deity is in a chamber, eight steps below and the entrance is from the Sabha Mandap. There are several inscription by pilgrims and the oldest belongs to 1493 A.D. Deo Somnath shrine is located twenty-four kilometres far away from Dungarpur Rajasthan near the bank of the Som River. It is devoted to lord Shiva. The shrine was constructed close to the 12 century and 1493 AD is traced by inscription. This is a replica very close to the current Somnath temple of Gujarat.
