A must visit place for all bird and nature lovers. The sanctuary is located in Chhapar village, the nearest train station is Chhapar, but not many trains stop here. The main rail/bus connection is via Sujangarh which is about 14km away. Auto/cabs/buses are easily available for Chhapar from here, though not many buses ply after 6pm. The sanctuary is famous for its blackbuck population- there is no other place where u can see them as easily. They allow only vehicles- hired or own cars, tongas and battery operated vehicles, no pedestrians are permitted. The staff though is indifferent at best if not frankly rude, and try to coerce you into a tonga /vehicle deal, which should not be the case. There is government infrastructure in the form of a forest rest house inside the park, but it was closed due to election work these days. The place badly needs a committed administrator/forest deptt official-a little effort and this tiny hamlet can be a tourist hotspot. The ecosystem is unique, that of a dry grassland, much like African Savannah, with plenty of blackbucks and avian species specially raptors. They should allow walking/self vehicle drive-supervsed, inside the park, in groups if needed. Or you can skip the sanctuary altogether and drive around chhapar village if you have your own vehicle you would see hundreds of blackbucks everywhere. One should visit in winter only as it gets quite warm.Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a...
Read moreNot worth the excitement and money!! We reached the sanctuary around 11 am, entry fee is Rs. 145 per head. Private vehicles or moving by foot is prohibited. You get horse cart (tanga) for rs. 300 (max. 4 persons) and you need to pay for its entry as well (rs. 70). The cart rider promises for a 1 hour tour, but winds up within 30 mins (happened with me) and the route is fixed. Though you can try your luck in riding the cart yourself, thanks the cart rider. Upon getting back, the cart rider asked for rs. 100 as an additional bonus (which I found unethical as he was already being paid from the sanctuary authority). If you are visiting just to see blackbucks and deers, then please avoid it and save your money, as they can be seen in abundance in the adjacent roads around the sanctuary fences. I even saw few roaming outside the sanctuary :). I saw 2 peacocks, few raptors and 2 owls only. I wanted to see fox, monitor lizard but could not see. Overall, a...
