ராசிபுரத்திலிருந்து நாமக்கல் செல்லும் சாலையில் அமைந்துள்ளது நித்திய சுமங்கலி மாரியம்மன் கோவில். கொல்லிமலை, அலவாய் மலை, நைனாமலை, போத மலை என்னும் நான்கு மலைகளுக்கு மத்தியில் அமைந்த கோவில் இது. அம்மனுக்கு இத்தகைய சிறப்பு பெயர் கொண்ட தலம் வேறு எங்கும் கிடையாது. கருவறையில் நித்திய சுமங்கலி மாரியம்மன் சதுர வடிவ ஆவுடையாரில் அமர்ந்திருக்கின்றாள். நித்திய சுமங்கலி மாரியம்மனுக்கு முன்பு, முதலில் இத்தலத்தில் சுயம்புவாக தோன்றிய மாரியம்மன் லிங்க வடிவில் காட்சி தருகிறாள். அம்மனுக்கு எதிரே யாளி வாகனம் இருக்கிறது.

பொதுவாக மாரியம்மன் கோயில்களில் விழாக்காலங்களில் மட்டும் அம்பிகைக்கு எதிரே கம்பம் நடப்படும். இந்த கம்பத்தை அம்பிகையின், கணவனாக கருதி பூஜை செய்வர். ஆனால், இத்தலத்தில் அனைத்து நாட்களிலும் அம்பிகை எதிரே கம்பம் இருக்கிறது. அம்பிகை, தனது கணவனாக கருதப்படும் கம்பத்தை நேரே பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதால் இவளிடம் வேண்டிக்கொள்ள, பெண்கள் தீர்க்க சுமங்கலியாக இருப்பர் என்பது ஐதீகம். எனவே இந்த அம்மனை, 'நித்ய சுமங்கலி மாரியம்மன்' என்று அழைக்கிறார்கள்.

குழந்தைவரம் வேண்டுவோர் இங்கு ஒரு வித்தியாசமான பிரார்த்தனை செய்கின்றனர். ஐப்பசி விழாவின்போது அம்மனுக்கு எதிரேயுள்ள பழைய கம்பத்தை எடுத்துவிட்டு, புதிய கம்பம் நடுகின்றனர். பழைய கம்பத்தை இங்கிருந்து சற்று தூரத்திலுள்ள தீர்த்தக் கிணற்றிற்கு கொண்டு செல்கின்றனர். அப்போது கம்பத்திற்கு தயிர் சாத நைவேத்யம் படைத்து பூஜை நடக்கிறது. குழந்தை பாக்கியம் இல்லாத பெண்கள் கம்பத்தை வணங்கி, எலுமிச்சை தீபமேற்றி, தயிர் சாத பிரசாதம் வாங்கி சாப்பிடுகின்றனர். இதனால் குழந்தை பாக்கியம் கிடைப்பதாக நம்புகிறார்கள். மேலும் ஒவ்வொரு மாதத்திலும் மகம் நட்சத்திரத்தில் அம்மனுக்கு சிறப்பு பூஜை நடக்கிறது. அம்மனுக்கு எதிரே ஊஞ்சல் மண்டபம் உள்ளது. இங்குள்ள ஊஞ்சலில் அம்பிகையின் பாதம் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. புத்திரத்தடை உள்ள பெண்கள் இந்த ஊஞ்சலை ஆட்டி, அம்பிகையிடம் வேண்டிக்கொள்கிறார்கள். இதனால் குழந்தைப்பேறு கிடைக்கும்...
