Tribute to an invincible warrior @ Raver Khedi on the banks of Narmada
In tribute 🙏🙏
I have tried coming here on three previous occasions and succeeded in finding one or other pretext to postpone it to the next visit. This place has reckoned me,haunted and tormented, me to visit, so when I came here today and paid my obeisance I felt I’ve come home!! It’s a place of pilgrimage, history and valor like none other. @Raverkhedi in Khargone district on the banks of narmada lies a simple monument built by his loyal general Scindia to his beloved peshva A monument to an incomparable warrior. It is a nondescript monument walled with a courtyard lined with colonnades with a central pedestal where his last rites were performed, and encrypted inside are the ashes of this brave warrior. History has seen him with myopic vision but read inbetween the lines and tales of victorious battles start flowing. Politics has tried to erase his name from most of history books yet he shines forth. Imagine a young 40 yr old general camping with troops of one lakh soldiers waiting to cross the narmada for onward campaigns of the far flung north (read attock(currently in pak)and kabul) His career spanned only 20 years yet his battle skills are legendary. Example quoted often in military history is the battle of palkhed. The country was under saffron flag of chatrapati to the greatest extent under him. By a cruel twist of fate death overtook him with sudden illness and changed fortunes of this country forever. Most part of his life was spent on horseback and battlefield. A general who never lost a battle with his legendary battle skills. Only death could overpower him. A true ‘Ran mard’ (braveheart of the men in battle) In remembrance and tribute.

Read more5 stars for the place kept Spik and span. Its not a Fort, not a strategic army post. Its a samadhi sthal of one of the greatest warrior & leader the Maratha Empire and has ever seen after Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj. So visit this place for paying homage and respect to this Martyr this great soul that once walked on this very soil winning 41 straight battles. This makes the place special. Also the beautiful banks of the revered Ma Narmada river right next to the samadhi makes this place a larger than life experience. The river splits just before the samadhi and joins just after so there's an island right in front which is accessible by motorised boats available at the shore. Call of nature has to be answered naturally. The approach cement road ends at the samadhi and parking space for 8 to 10 cars is there. Also we can parallel park on the approach road in case of more visitors at a time. Right next to the samadhi is raverkhedi village. A small daily needs village shop can help you with some packaged snacks/biacuits in case of emergency. Timings are 9am to 5pm. You can easily spend 2 hours reaching at (now in winter) say at 4pm visit the samadhi then go to the river have a bath cross over on a boat to the island, have your food and tea there, rest a bit then come back for a beautiful unobstructed sunset view from the samadhi or the river banks and attend the MA Narmada aarti conducted by the villagers at sunset. Approach from Khargone and Sanawad is good. If you are coming from Khandwa/ Bhikangaon take the Bhikangaon-Sanawad road and turn left at Hirapur for Bediya. Till you reach the samadhi, enjoy the place...

A milestone during the Maratha empire. This place is known for samadhi of 7th Peshwa of the Maratha Empire "Pantpradhan Shreemant Peshwa Bajirao Ballal Balaji Bhat".
Baji Rao I (18 August 1700 – 28 April 1740), born as Visaji, also known as Bajirao Ballal was the 7th Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. During his 20-year career as a Peshwa, he defeated Mughals and their vassal Nizam-ul-Mulk at several battles like the Battle of Delhi and Battle of Bhopal. Baji Rao's achievements are establishing Maratha supremacy in southern India and political hegemony in northern India. Thus, he was responsible for establishing Maratha power in Gujarat, Malwa, Rajputana and Bundelkhand all the way up to Bengal and gaining Konkan (western coast of India) from the Siddis of Janjira and Portuguese rule.
The location is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and a mesmerising view of the Maa Narmada river front.
The location is currently under Madhya Pradesh tourism and is well maintained, cleaned by MPT along with a clean washroom and fresh cold drinking water. Apart from the location being more than two century years old it is well preserved, clean and maintained by Madhya Pradesh tourism department.
