Its one of the oldest kagyu monastery of sikkim. The monastery has about 50 monks and it is nestled away from the busy schedules of life. Everything here is peaceful and amidst the nature one can truly enjoy peace and if the weather is favourable then the view of the leeward side of the gangtok is also visible.

Built in the early 18th century, Phodong Monastery belongs to the Karma Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is known for its vibrant murals, intricate frescoes, and well-preserved ancient scriptures. The architecture reflects traditional Tibetan design, with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, adding to the spiritual ambiance.

One of the best times to visit is during the annual Cham dance festival, where monks perform masked dances depicting Buddhist legends. The festival attracts tourists and devotees alike, creating an atmosphere of devotion and celebration.

The monastery is less crowded compared to other famous monasteries in Sikkim, making it an ideal spot for meditation and quiet reflection. The journey to Phodong Monastery, winding through lush forests and picturesque landscapes, is an experience in itself.

Overall, Phodong Monastery is a hidden gem that offers a blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or a traveler looking for tranquility, this monastery is...

One of the best experience when visiting Sikkim was the trip to Phodong Monastery. It's about an hour drive from Gangtok, through a scenic route but slightly bad roads. The Monastery is beautiful , has a great view of the mountain ranges and the prayer chants makes it a wonderful visit. There was a hail storm when we visited , we halted there for sometime until the storm cleared and the view after that was dramatic and exciting. It's recommended only for those who love to visit calm and quiet places to get some peace and there are less tourists...
