Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary — Attraction in Sikkim

Beautiful flowers in a beautiful valley - Shingba is part of the beautiful Yumthang valley and falls on the way. The Rhododendron flowers here can be seen only during a few months, typically starting from end of April to September. But event during that time, if you are expecting a carpet / riot of colors like in the "Valley of Flowers" in Uttarakhand or on Kas plateau, you might be a little disappointed. There is not a huge variety of flowers here, it's mostly rhododendrons and those too are not quite dense (although they are everywhere you look). Rhododendrons grow on tall green shrubs, they are big, they wilt quite easily and hence there's no "carpeting" or dense colors. Red is the most common color of this flower but you'll also find many pinks, a few magenta and a rare purple. In fact, finding a different-colored tree is a nice game to play here. Awesome place. I have visited on the end of may this year. Strongly recommended place. Best time to visit is end of march to start of may. It is located on the way to yumthang valley. The place is heaven for nature lovers. The place is too calm and quiet. You can spend a lot of time to enjoy the varities of rhododendron flowers. Right place to bring young kids to be familiar with nature.
