Formed by fault-block movements in the Holocene Epoch (i.e., about the past 11,700 years), the Anaimalai Hills descend to form a series of terraces about 3,300 feet (1,000 metres) high. Dense monsoon forests including rosewood, sandalwood, teak, and sago palms cover most of the region. The soils are mottled red and brown containing oxides of aluminum and iron and are used as building material mixed with mortar and in road construction. The Kadar, Maravar, and Pooliyar peoples inhabit the sparsely populated hills; their economy is based on hunting and gathering and on shifting cultivation. We have visited this place few years ago. Its about 814m on height. You have to trek this hill to reach there. Once you reach on the top you will be mesmerised by the beauty of nature. There are footprints of Lord Shiva on the rock there. And the most important thing you will notice is that when you touch the footprints you feel the temperature is lower than other sides of same rock. Valparai I must say was the most beautiful place I have been to. The views, nature, and the road I must say it is truly the "seventh Heaven on earth" . I would suggest anyone who is willing to travel there should definitely go by bike to feel the breeze, the air and the nature.
