Arulmigu Ettukudi Murugan Temple — Attraction in Tamil Nadu

A very great place for family members to stay connected in peace and happiness to be made by love. Such a divine temple to be visited after taking a bath in the temple pond. Powerful god to get boons with true dedication, thankfulness and zero negligence. On festival days, a highly crowded place to get dharshan from idols of gods. Need patience and perseverance to bear the stress of crowds. This is a temple dedicated for Lord Murugan. In this temple we can see the statue of Murugan along with Valli and Deivanai. Nice and Good Temple. Worth a Visit. Recommended to Visit from Tiruvarur or Tiruthurai poondi. Don't Visit from Nagapattinam as there is only one bus available (Bus No: A13) which is very less in frequency. (Almost 1 bus for every 4 hours). Lots of buses are available from Tiruvarur towards Vedharanyam. It's good to plan your visit in the morning as it's in a very remote place from Highway Roads. A private vehicle is highly recommended instead of a bus. Also Don't plan your visit with the intention of staying here. It's not recommended. No good Lodges, shops or eatables nearby. A wonderful ancient temple. This is the second temple in the series of three temples where the idol was sculpted by the same sculptor.

The first temple is Poravachery, very close to sikkal murugan temple.

(Some people mistake the first temple as sikkal murugan temple, which is not true. Infact the main idol in the sikkal temple is Lord Shiva, but lord murugan is given importance there too.)

The second temple is this one in Ettukudi and the third temple is in Engan.

It may be interesting to note that the name of the village came from the statue. The story goes, that when the sculptor whose thumb was cut off by the king after he made the Poravachery murugan statue, still managed to create the statue in this temple. As he was giving his finishing touches, the local chieftain came to the temple to see the progress made.

As he saw the sculptor giving final touches to Murugan's statue, he felt the peacock would fly away, hence he tried to catch it, (in Tamil, ettipidi), which in due course of time, became Ettukudi.

Another unique feature of this temple, is the way the peacock is oriented. here in this temple the head of the peacock is on the left hand side of Lord murugan.

A east facing temple, with a big temple pond in front of the temple. Kind of having good parking spaces for vehicles but am not sure if that would be sufficient on auspicious days, since this temple attracts a huge crowd, for kavadi and other prayers.

அருள்மிகு எட்டுக்குடி முருகன் திருக்கோயில், எட்டுக்குடி - 610212, நாகப்பட்டினம் மாவட்டம்.

தல சிறப்பு: எட்டுக்குடி முருகன் தலத்தில் சஷ்டி விரதத்தையும் கவுரி விரதத்தையும் ஒன்றாகக் கடைப்பிடிப்பது சிறப்பு. தீபாவளியன்று கொண்டாடப்படும் கேதார கவுரி விரதம் தோன்றிய தலம் இதுதான் என்பர். இங்குள்ள முருகப் பெருமான் வள்ளி, தெய்வானையுடன் மயில்மீதமர்ந்து காட்சி தருகிறார். இந்த மூவரும் அமர்ந்துள்ள மயில் சிற்பத்துக்கு தரையின்மீதுள்ள ஆதாரம் அதன் இரண்டு கால்கள் மட்டுமே என்பது அதிசயம்! வான்மீகர் என்ற சித்தர் இங்கு தான் சமாதியானார். கோயிலுக்குள் வன்னி மரத்தடியில் இவரது சமாதி இருக்கிறது. பார்க்கும் மனநிலைக்கு ஏற்ப தன் உருவத்தை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு காட்சி தருபவர் எட்டுக்குடி சுப்பிரமணியசுவாமி. குழந்தையாக நினைத்து பார்த்தால் குழந்தை வடிவிலும், முதியவராக நினைத்து பார்த்தால் வயோதிக வடிவிலும், இளைஞனாக நினைத்து பார்த்தால் இளைஞர் வடிவிலும் இவர் காட்சி தருவார்.

திருவிழா: சித்ரா பவுர்ணமி திருவிழா இங்கு பத்து நாட்கள் நடக்கும். பவுர்ணமி நாளுக்கு முந்தைய நாளே நடை திறக்கப்பட்டு பாலபிஷேகம் துவங்கும். பவுர்ணமிக்கு மறுநாள் வரை தொடர்ந்து நடை அடைக்காமல் பாலபிஷேகம் நிகழ்ந்த வண்ணம் இருக்கும். பவுர்ணமிக்கு முதல் தேரோட்டம் நடத்தப்படும். இவ்விழாவில் குறைந்தபட்சம் 23 ஆயிரம் பால்காவடிகள் வந்து சேரும். ஐப்பசியில் கந்த சஷ்டி விழா ஆறு நாட்களும், வைகாசி விசாகம் ஒரு நாளும் விழா நடத்தப்படும். உள்ளிருக்கும் அம்மையப்பனுக்கு மார்கழி திருவாதிரையில் விழா எடுக்கப்படும். இது தவிர மாத கார்த்திகைகளில் சிறப்பு பூஜை உண்டு. சிறப்பு பூஜை: இங்கு சத்ரு சம்ஹார திரிசதை எனும் சிறப்பு பூஜை நடத்தப்படுகிறது. எதிரிகளால் ஏற்படும் துன்பம் தீர இப்பூஜையை நடத்துவார்கள். எதிரிகளால் ஏற்படும் நியாயமான துன்பங்களுக்காக மட்டுமே இப்பூஜையை செய்ய வேண்டும். எதிரிகளை அழிக்கும் நோக்குடன் செய்தால் பலன் வேறு மாதிரியாக அமையும். தேய்பிறை சஷ்டி அல்லது அவரவர் பிறந்த நட்சத்திர நாளில் இப்பூஜையை செய்வார்கள். இதற்கு முன்கூட்டியே பதிவு செய்ய வேண்டும். ஆறுமுகங்களுக்கும் நைவேத்தியம், அபிஷேகம், புஷ்ப அலங்காரம் செய்யப்படும்.

பிரார்த்தனை: குழந்தைகளின் பயந்த சுபாவம் நீங்கவும், திருமணத்தடை, குழந்தை பாக்கியம், கல்வியில் சிறந்து விளங்க இறைவனை பிரார்த்திக்கலாம்.

தலபெருமை: பார்க்கும் மனநிலைக்கு ஏற்ப தன் உருவத்தை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு காட்சி தருபவர் எட்டுக்குடி சுப்பிரமணியசுவாமி. குழந்தையாக நினைத்து பார்த்தால் குழந்தை வடிவிலும், முதியவராக நினைத்து பார்த்தால் வயோதிக வடிவிலும், இளைஞனாக நினைத்து பார்த்தால் இளைஞர் வடிவிலும் இவர் காட்சி தருவார். சித்ராபவுர்ணமியை ஒட்டி இங்கு விழா நடக்கிறது. கோயில் முன்புள்ள சரவணப்பொய்கை தீர்த்தத்தில் கைபட்டாலே பாவ நிவர்த்தியாகி விடும் சிறப்புடையது. சவுந்தரநாயகர், ஆனந்தவல்லித்தாயார் ஆகியோர் முருகனின் தாய் தந்தையாக அருள்பாலிக்கின்றனர். பயந்த சுபாவமுடைய குழந்தைகளை இத்தலத்துக்கு அழைத்து வந்தால் பயம் நீங்கும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. ஏனெனில் இங்கு முருகன் அம்பறாத் துணியிலிருந்து அம்பை எடுக்கும் நிலையில் வீர சவுந்தரியம் உடையவனாக திகழ்கிறான். சூரனை அழிப்பதற்காக உள்ள இக்கோலம் பற்றி குழந்தைகளுக்கு விளக்கி சொன்னால் அவர்கள் ஆற்றல் உடையவர்களாக திகழ்வார்கள் என்பது நம்பிக்கை.

தல வரலாறு: நாகப்பட்டினம் அருகிலுள்ள பொருள்வைத்தசேரி என்ற கிராமத்தில் தெய்வத்தன்மை வாய்ந்த சிற்பி ஒருவன் இருந்தான். "சரவணபவ' என்ற ஆறெழுத்து மந்திரத்தை ஓதிய வண்ணம் இருந்த இவன், அழகிய ஆறுமுகம் கொண்ட வேலவன் சிலையை செய்தான். அப்போது ஆட்சியில் இருந்த பரந்த சோழ மன்னன், அச்சிலையின் அழகைப்பார்த்து ஆனந்தம் கொண்டான். இது போல இன்னொரு சிலையை செய்யக்கூடாது என்பதற்காக, அந்த சிற்பியின் கட்டை விரலை வெட்டி விட்டான். அவன் வருத்தத்துடன் அருகிலுள்ள ஒரு கிராமத்திற்கு வந்தான். கைவிரல் இல்லாத நிலையிலும் கடுமையான முயற்சி எடுத்து மற்றொரு சிலையை செய்தான். அதை அவ்வூரை ஆண்ட குறுநில மன்னன் முத்தரசன் பார்த்தான். அந்த சிலையிலிருந்து ஒளி வீசியது. வேலை நிறைவு பெற்றதும் சிலைக்கு உயிர் வந்து, முருகன் அமர்ந்திருந்த மயில் பறக்க ஆரம்பித்தது. மன்னன் அந்நேரத்தில் வர அதை "எட்டிப்பிடி' என உத்தரவிட்டான். காவலர்கள் மயிலை பிடித்தனர். அதன் கால்களை சிறிதளவு உடைத்தனர். அதன் பின் மயில் சிலையாகி அங்கேயே நின்று கொண்டது. எட்டிப்பிடி என்ற வார்த்தை காலப்போக்கில் "எட்டிக்குடி' என மாறி தற்போது "எட்டுக்குடி' ஆனது. அதுவே ஊரின் பெயராகவும் நிலைத்து விட்டது. இதே சிற்பி மற்றொரு சிலையையும் வடித்தான். அதை எண்கண் என்ற தலத்தில் வைத்தான். சிற்பி முதலில் வடித்த சிலை சிக்கலிலும், அடுத்த சிலை எட்டுக்குடியிலும் வைக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த மூன்றுமே உருவத்தில் ஒரே...
