Vanabhadrakaliamman Temple, Mettupalayam — My Experience

The Vanabhadrakaliamman Temple in Mettupalayam is set in beautiful, serene surroundings. Every time I visit, I bring many flowers for Bhadrakali Amman, whom I see as my own mother. On my recent visit, there was no crowd, and I was grateful to stand in peace, pray, and feel deeply connected to her.

During this visit, I noticed there was another door closer to the deity’s sanctum for which there is an entrance fee. I was unaware of this at first, as the boards were only in Tamil. When the priest informed me, I immediately stepped out, bought the ticket, and entered again. Another devotee behind me made the same mistake for the same reason. I feel strongly that the signage should be in both Tamil and English to avoid confusion for visitors.

During this time, I observed an elderly man named Ganesh behaving very rudely. He was bothering the priest for a garland, and later, he shouted at the other devotee who entered without knowing about the fee. When I tried to explain calmly that devotees often don’t know the rule, he answered me back very rudely as well. Worse, I saw him bringing in someone he described as a friend without any ticket, giving her special treatment.

What really pained me was the lack of basic kindness. Despite my offering so many flowers to Ma, one of my garlands fell while praying. When I asked the priest for just a small flower, he was extremely stingy. He even ignored another devotee who was crying before the Goddess. I ended up sharing my flowers with that devotee myself.

Sadly, even the attitude of some priests was quite insensitive. It was hurtful to see people who are supposed to serve the Goddess behaving as if they own the temple and can treat devotees however they like. Bhadrakali is our Mother—we visit her with love, and they are meant to serve her, which also means serving us with respect.

However, I want to highlight that one of the temple officers who monitors the cameras was extremely polite and responsible. He called Ganesh aside and firmly condemned his rude behaviour. I deeply respect him for that. Such fairness and accountability are exactly what is needed to keep the temple atmosphere sacred and welcoming.

I hope the temple authorities ensure that staff behave respectfully with devotees and that people like Ganesh, who have no official role yet harass and insult visitors, are prevented from spoiling such...

Sri VanaBadrakaliamman Temple is situated amidst Mettupalayam to Thekkampatti road route. It is just 5 kilometers away from Mettupalayam, which falls under Coimbatore District in Kongu Nadu.

The temple is situated in such a beautiful atmosphere comprising of clean and huge land area with greeneries, mountain landscapes, nature’s beauty along with lingering of birds and blossoming of flowers on the banks of River Bhavani.

River Bhavani’s old name seems to be “Vani” and also called as “PooVani”. Nellimalai with full of greens is located adjacent to the temple along with Nellithurai village. The deity “ Devi Badrakali” of this temple purifies her devotees and has been bestowing their wishes and prayers.

Greatness Of Temple :

Goddess Vanabadrakali Amman is a swayambumurthi. Realizing their wishes, women use to put their mangal sutras in the hundi. They tie a stone in the sacred tree for child boon. Those starting a trade or beginning marriage proposals use to place white and red flowers in separate packets and seek the permission of the Goddess. If they get the flower of their choice, it means the permission is granted. Above all, the temple is known for the sheep animal sacrifice.

கோவையிலிருந்து 40 கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவில் வன பத்திரகாளி அம்மன் கோவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. கோவை மாவட்டத்தை சேர்ந்தவர்கள் குடும்பத்துடன் சென்று கிடா வெட்டி உறவினர்களையும் நண்பர்களையும் அழைத்து விருந்து படைத்தது உபசரிக்கும் ஸ்தலமாக இந்த கோவில் விளங்குகிறது.

எங்கள் உறவினர் ஒருவர் கிடா வெட்டுக்கு வரச்சொன்னார்கள். நானும் எனது சித்தி மகனும் (என்னை விட சிறிது வயதில் பெரியவர் அதனால் அவரை அண்ணன் என்று அழைப்பேன்) சென்றிருந்தோம். கிடா வெட்டி மற்ற வேலைகளை கவனித்து முடிக்க மதியம் ஆகிவிடும் சிறிது நேரம் அருகே அழகாக ஓடும் பவானி ஆற்றில் குளித்து விட்டு வரலாம் என்று இருவரும் ஆற்றில் குளிக்க கிளம்பினோம்.

என் அண்ணன் என்று சொன்னேன் அல்லவா அவரை பற்றி ஒரு சிறிய அறிமுகம். அவர் ஒரு சிறந்த நீச்சல் வீரர். திருசெந்தூர் சென்றால் நான் கடற்கரையில் நின்று வேடிக்கை பார்ப்பேன் அவர் " கொஞ்சம் இரு சற்றே விளையாடி விட்டு வருகிறேன்" என்று கடலில் குதித்து கண்ணுக்கு தெரியாத தூரம் வரை நீந்தி சென்றுவிட்டு திரும்பி வருவார்.

பவானி ஆற்றில் நான் இடுப்பளவு தண்ணீரில் நின்று குளித்து கொண்டிருந்தேன் அவர் ஆழமான பகுதிக்கு கூட அனாயசமாக நீந்தி சென்று விட்டு வந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். திடீர் என்று என்னை நோக்கி நீந்தி வந்தார். "வா போகலாம்" என்றார். வெயில் அதிகமாக இருந்ததால் எனக்கு தண்ணீரை விட்டு எழுந்து வர மனமில்லை. "சாப்பாடு ரெடியாக இன்னும் நேரம் இருக்கு கொஞ்சநேரம் கழிச்சு போலாமே" என்றேன்.

"வாடா போகலாம்" என்று கோபமாக என்னை பார்த்து கத்தினார். எனக்கு ஒன்றும் விளங்கவில்லை. சரி என்று நானும் எழுந்து கரைக்கு போகலாம் என்று எழுந்த போது என் அருகே குளித்து கொண்டிருந்த இளைஞன் ஒருவன் திடீர் என்று தண்ணீருக்குள் மூழ்க ஆரம்பித்தான். ஆனால் சரசரவென்று வேகமாக தண்ணீர் அவனை வேகமாக இழுத்து சென்று விட்டது.

அந்த நிகழ்வை பார்த்த பின் என்னால் நிற்க கூட முடியவில்லை. அண்ணனின் தோளை பிடித்து கை தாங்கலாக கரைக்கு வரும்போது கேட்டேன். " ஏன் கோபமா கத்தினீங்க" என்று. அதற்கு அவர் "இங்கே என்னமோ தப்பு நடக்குது தண்ணீருக்குள் நீந்திகிட்டிருந்த போது யாரோ ரெண்டு பேர் என்னோட கால பிடிச்சி இழுத்தானுக, நான் எட்டி உதைத்து விட்டு கரைக்கு வந்து விட்டேன்" என்று கூறினார்.

அகோரிகள்

அன்று சாப்பிட கூட பிடிக்கவில்லை. வெளியே வந்த பிறகு நண்பர்கள் சிலரிடம் நடந்ததை சொன்னோம். அதற்கு அவர்கள் "ஆமாம் இங்கே சிலர் இருக்கிறார்கள் குளிக்க செல்பவர்களை காலை பிடித்து இழுத்து தண்ணீருக்குள் இருக்கும் பாறை இடுக்குகளில் சிக்கவைத்து விடுவார்கள் பிறகு உறவினர்களிடம் பிணத்தை எடுத்து கொடுக்க பேரம் பேசுவார்கள்" என்று சொன்னார்கள். நாங்களும் மீண்டும் ஆற்றங்கரைக்கு சென்று என்ன நடக்கிறது என்று பார்க்கலாம் என்று சென்றோம். அங்கே சிலர் அழுது கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர்களை சுற்றி ஒரு நான்கு பேர் இருக்கும் " இங்கே அடித்து செல்பவர்களின் பிணம் மேலே வர சான்சே இல்ல இங்க ரெண்டு பேர் இருக்காங்க வேணும்னா தண்ணிக்குள்ள குதிச்சி தேடி எடுத்து கொடுப்பாங்க ஆனா அதுக்கு கொஞ்சம் செலவு அதிகமா ஆகும், நீங்களே பாதீங்கள்ள கொஞ்சம் ஏமாந்தா உயிர் போயிடும்" என்று பேரம் பேசி கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

என்ன நடக்குதுன்னு புரியல. ஆனா ஒரு ரிக்வெஸ்ட். மேட்டுபாளையம் போனா தயவு செஞ்சு அந்த ஆத்தில மட்டும் காலை வைக்காதீங்க. நீங்க நல்லா இருந்தா தானே உங்கள் குடும்பம் சந்தோசமா இருக்கும்.

ஆனா அந்த ஆத்தில அடிச்சிகிட்டு போற செய்தி மட்டும் ஒஞ்ச பாடில்லை கடந்த 27.4. 17 ஆம் தேதி முதல் 6. 11 . 17 வரை இந்த சம்பவம் தொடர்ந்து நடந்து கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. இதுவரை ஏராளமான சிறுவர்களின் உயிர் போய்விட்டது. ஒரு வாரம் 8 சிறுவர்கள் உயிரிழந்துள்ளனர்.

இது மேட்டுப்பாளையம் மட்டும் அல்ல கொடுவேரி, ஒகேனக்கல், போன்று பல ஆறு, நீர்வீழ்ச்சி, டேம், கடல் இடங்களில் மனிதனை பிணமாக்கி பணம் பறிக்கும் சில பிணம் தின்னும் கழுகுகள் இருக்கிறான்கள்
