Visited Chinnakallar Waterfall in October, and it was an absolutely stunning experience! Situated at the top of Valparai, the journey to the hill station is just as memorable as the destination. The drive takes you through 40 scenic curves, each uniquely named after the local wildlife and birds, which adds a touch of fascination to the trip.
We were lucky to spot some animals in the trees and distant hills along the way, which made the drive feel like a mini safari. However, we noticed that public transport options are quite limited—rarely spotted one or two buses during the entire trip. So, having your own vehicle or hiring one is highly recommended.
Locals mentioned that Valparai is the second-highest rainfall region in South India, and while I can't confirm this, the cool, misty weather certainly felt like rain was just around the corner, adding to the charm. It’s a good idea to carry an umbrella, a raincoat, or water-resistant covers to avoid getting wet as the area is prone to sudden rainfall.
To visit the waterfall, there is an entry fee of 50 ruees per head. After parking, there’s a pleasant trek of about 500 to 600m to reach the falls. The pathway is lined with vendors selling snacks like sweet corn, boiled veggies, and fresh fruits, which added a delightful touch to the trek. There’s also a washroom about 150 meters from the waterfall, which is convenient. We noticed a guard stationed near the waterfall, which adds a sense of security.
While the waterfall itself is stunning and worth the trek, it’s important to note that there isn’t a dedicated changing room for visitors who might get wet near the waterfall. The washroom nearby could serve as a makeshift changing area, but better facilities could enhance the experience.
The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery, and the sound of cascading water makes it a perfect spot to unwind and soak in nature’s beauty.
Tips:
Since public transport is limited, plan for a private vehicle or hire transportation. Carry an umbrella, raincoat, or water-resistant covers as sudden rainfall is common. Keep an eye out for wildlife during the drive—it’s a magical experience! Wear comfortable shoes for the trek. Carry cash for tickets and snacks. Overall, Chinnakallar Waterfall is a must-visit for nature and adventure lovers. The journey, the wildlife, and the waterfall together create a perfect getaway into...
Read moreI visited Chinnakallar Waterfalls in Valparai during the summer. It’s a peaceful place surrounded by thick forest and tea estates. But during summer, the water level was low, so the waterfall was not very strong. Still, it was a nice spot to relax and enjoy nature.
Before going to the waterfall, you need to buy an entry ticket at the forest check post, which is about 8 km before the falls. For a two-wheeler, it cost Rs. 50 per person. After a few meters on the road, another forest guard will stop you to check the ticket again. So make sure you keep it safe and don’t lose it.
The ride from the check post to the waterfall is beautiful but a bit narrow. Drive slowly and enjoy the view. Once you park, there is a short and easy walk through the forest to reach the falls. The walk is pleasant and full of greenery.
There are no shops nearby, so it’s better to carry water and snacks. Also, don’t throw garbage—keep the place clean. I think this place will be much more beautiful after the rainy season. I plan to visit again when the water flow is strong. A good spot for nature lovers and a quiet break...

The trek to the falls was moderately easy, with a well-marked path leading through the forest. The scenery along the way was stunning, with lush greenery, colorful flowers, and the soothing sound of birdsong.
The falls themselves are breathtaking, with a gentle mist surrounding the area. I loved the fact that the water was cool and refreshing, making it perfect for a relaxing swim or simply sitting and enjoying the surroundings.
The area around the falls is well-maintained, with basic facilities like restrooms and drinking water. The local guides were also very helpful and provided valuable insights into the history and ecology of the area.
Overall, Chinna Kallar Waterfalls is a hidden gem that's definitely worth visiting....
