Nice, mid sized temple with an interesting history. Read on :he history of this temple speaks volumes of the greatness of a devotee as Poosalar Nayanar who was born in this place – Tirunindravoor. He was a worshipping a Shivalinga in the place but was sad that his Lord had to suffer both under Sun and rain as there was no roof above. A desire began to flame in his mind to build a temple for his Lord. But he was penniless. Yet, He decided to build a temple in his very heart itself. His temple had everything that a well planned temple would have. It had many facilities for the devotees. It was a temple as if constructed by great kings and the rich. Poosalar did not do it in a single day. He was not hasty. He scrupulously planned everything and built it step by step each day as it would necessarily consume some time. He completed the construction in his mind in some years with such particular accuracy, a temple according to rules should have. It so coincided that the completion of a real Shiva temple constructed by the Pallava king in Kancheepuram and that of Poosalar’s in his mind happened on the same day and time. Poosalar fixed a day for the consecration of the temple which also coincided with that of the Pallava king. The whole city of Kancheepuram was in a festive mood. Lord Shiva appeared in the dream of the king and expressed his congratulations and happiness for building a temple but asked him to postpone his date of consecration as He had to be at the consecration of the temple built by Poosalar that day. The king postponed his date as directed by Lord and started immediately to Tirunindravoor. He asked the people there about the temple. They had no answer. The King met Poosalar and told him what happened. Poosalar was happy that Lord responded to his prayer and made his temple plan public. He told the king all about his temple construction and the consecration. The king understood the difference between temples constructed at a heavy cost by kings and the rich and that built by a devotee in his heart, the cost which could not be estimated in material terms. Lord did appear on the day of consecration of Poosalar temple. All were happy. Poosalar reached the Lotus Feet of Lord that day itself. Lord made him one among the Nayanmars. To fulfill the desire of Poosalar, the king built a big temple in Tirunindravoor also. A Shivalinga was installed with due consecration ceremony. As Lord was in the heart – Hrudaya of Poosalar, He was named...
Read moreThis temple was conceived, planned to the last inch, all in mind , and constructed the temple also in mind by a great Nayanmar named Pusalar, 1200 years ago. Can we call him the first Architect and Engineer? Story goes that a Pallava king was constructing the most famous Kailasanathar Temple at Kancheepuram and fixed a date for Kumbabhishegam. In the similar time, our Pasalar , a strong Shiva devotee , at Thirunindravur , wanted to build a temple but could not afford the funds. So he started planning the temple in his mind, including all measurements meticulously, to the last inch, then started construction also all in mind daily, and went to the extent of fixing the date for Kumbabhishegam too in mind. So happened both the dates were same. Then Lord Shiva appeared in the dream of the King and told him to stop the Kumbabhishegam at Kanchee as he had to attend another program at Thirunindravur. King was upset but curious to know which was the other temple, so he came to Thirunindravur with his men. He found nothing expect this devotee under a tree. The king enquired with our devotee where is the new temple to have Kumbabhishegam now. Our Pusalar was really shocked to know how they knew about the date he fixed in mind, so narrated the whole story to the king. The king was so moved by the devotions, he stayed back and built the temple as per exact planning and layout by Pusalar. You must see the temple to appreciate how a man can so precisely plan a temple in mind? Is it not correct then to call him the FIRST ARCHITECT and...

Felt so so so happy that finally was able to step into this temple. After entering the temple only i realized that i had entered from the back side of the temple.
Temple has a beautiful history. Lord Shiva honoring one of the nayanmars, namely poosala naayanar, by telling the pallava king that he intend to go to Thiruninravur rather than be present for the kumbabhishekam of the temple in Kanchipuram.
Was so so happy that when i stepped in special pooja was about to start, and it was so wonderful to hear one of the locals singing Thiruvasagam in such a high pitch voice.
Was clearly surprised to see crowd building, (didn't know it was thai ammavasai), since normally people don't come to a shiva temple.
Had a wonderful darshan of the Lord and Ambal, with the milk, curd, turmeric abhishegams, with people singing Thiruvasagam and other religious chants. For my part i did sing the thevaram songs.
Temple faces east, no rajagopuram, Kodimaram present, Lord faces east, Ambal faces south. no 63 moovar statues. An exception in this temple which is not present in other shiva temples, is the presence of Poosala nayanar statue inside the sanctum sanctorum.
Though temple built by the pallava king, not sure how the gajaprushta vimanam is present. Probably must have been reconstructed by the cholas who followed the pallavas.
Parking area present in the front and back of the temple, but not sure it can hold...
