I was sad to rate this temple with one star. Even though the king/person who build this marvelous temple needs to be appreciated the govt and people maintaining this place needs to be condemned. The thenpannai river is used to wash the human waste and the surrounding area of this beautiful temple was full of human waste as they still defecate outside openly. I felt like vomiting hence left the place in urgency. Please stop complaining about North India, even if they pollute river they use it for religious purpose but here people defecate and wash it in a clean river to pollute it. Very disheartening. திருக்கோவிலூர் வழியாக செல்லும் தென் பெண்ணையாற்றின் நடுவில் இந்த கபிலர் குன்று அமைந்துள்ளது. பேரூந்து நிலையத்திலிருந்து ஒன்றரை கி மீ தூரத்தில் உள்ளது.

கபிலர் குன்று என்பது கபிலர் வடக்கிருந்து உயிர் துறந்த இடமாகும். . நண்பரும் வள்ளலும் ஆன மன்னன் பாரியின் மறைவுக்கு பிறகு, பாரிமகளிர் அங்கவை சங்கவை என்பவர்களை திருக்கோவிலூர்பார்ப்பான் ஒருவனுக்குத் திருமணம் செய்து வைத்துவிட்டு, தென்பெண்ணை ஆற்றில் உள்ள ஒரு குன்றில் வடக்கு பக்கம் அமர்ந்து உண்ணா நோன்பிருந்து உயிர் துறந்த இடமாகும்.

கபிலர்குன்று என இன்று அழைக்கப்பட்டாலும் "கபிலக்கல்" என்றே இந்த இடத்தைக் கல்வெட்டுக் குறிப்பிடுகின்றது.

கபிலர் குன்று அண்மைக் காலங்களில் "இடைச்சி குன்று" என்றும் அழைக்கிறார்கள் . இவ்விடம் தற்போது தமிழக அரசின் தொல்லியல் துறையின் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்ட இடமாகப் பராமரிக்கப்படுகிறது. கபிலர்குன்று என்பது தனித்த பாறையும் அதன்மேல் சிறுகோயில் அமைப்பில் கட்டப்பட்ட கட்டடமும் கொண்டது. கோயில் உள்ளே சிவலிங்கம் உள்ளது. செங்கல் கொண்டு அமைக்கப்பட்ட கட்டடத்தின் பழைமை மாறாமல் இன்று மெருகு ஊட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. கட்டட அமைப்பை கருத்தில் கொண்டு, கபிலர்குன்று 14-ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த கட்டடபாணி எனத் தொல்லியல் அறிஞர்கள் குறிப்பிடுகின்றனர். கோயிலின் மேலே நான்கு பக்க மேல்பகுதிகளிலும் கடவுள் சிற்பங்கள் தெரிகின்றன. அச்சிலையின் மேல்பகுதியில் இரண்டு ஆண் உருவங்களும், இரண்டு பெண் உருவங்களும் தெரிகின்றன. பெண் உருவங்களின் முகம் பொலிவுடன் காணப்படுகின்றன. இப்பெண் உருவங்கள் அங்கவை, சங்கவையாகவும், ஆண் உருவம் அவர்களை மணந்தவர்களாகவும் கருத இடம் உண்டு. அல்லது பாரி, கபிலர் உருவங்கள் என்பதும் ஆராயப்பட வேண்டியுள்ளது.
