After having a wonderful darshan and a beautiful eye opener regarding the Divya prabhandams in Thirukoshtiyur Temple, we came back to Pillayar Patti for the abhishegam.
They told us to come to the temple by 11.15 and be ready for the abhishegam around 11.30, but unfortunately they were quiet a bit behind schedule.
But that gave me some time to go around the temple and see things / features, which i was totally not aware of in my first visit.
First and most important point is the fact there is a shiva shrine inside the temple.
Second important point is that the huge Pillayar is facing NORTH, which was totally surprising.
Third interesting feature was that Lord shiva was facing due East but Pillayar was facing due North, and both of them have Kodimaram, which is good and nothing wrong, but the important point was, which way to do the final namaskaram. If you face north and fall, then your legs will be facing the pillayar.
It was an interesting problem, and the temple staff said face east and fall down to do ur namaskaram.
Going around inside the temple was able to see the width and the breadth of the corridors, the wonderful statues on each pillars. The amazing and wonderful paintings on the roof.
Full marks to the Nagarathars for keeping this temple in such a good condition compared to the ones run by HR & C.
The temple staff called us, when they were ready for the abhishegam and my my my , what a beautiful abhishegam it was. Milk, Curd, Vibhuthi, Panchamirudham, etc etc. Absolutely wonderful and mesmerising.
Felt so happy to have witnessed such a wonderful abhishegam.
Temple faces both East and North. Pillayar faces North. Lord Shiva faces East. Rajagopuram present, Two kodimaram present. Temple pond present and in the north direction.
If possible read the nice short kavimalai written by Kaviarasu Kannadasan on Lord Pillayarpatti. (FYI, Mr.Kannadasan birth place is very close to pillayarpatti)
Wonderful Temple, one should visit the atleast once in their life time.
Did this trip long long time back, and the only thing i still remember is that it is an rock cut temple and the pillayar is really massive and mammoth in size and there was a huge temple tank full of water.
Though we recently went by this temple, to other temples like Kundarakudi and Ariyakudi.
Definitely worth a visit to see the...
