Masila Falls (மாசிலா நீர்வீழ்ச்சி), Kolli Hills

Overview & Location

A picturesque medium‑sized, tiered waterfall nestled amid the lush Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills, Tamil Nadu, near Valapurnadu/Ariyurnadu .

Approximate height: ~200 ft (around 60 m) .

Access & Infrastructure

Easily accessible via a short (~10‑minute) concrete walkway from the parking area.

A small entry fee (~₹10–30 per person) and vehicle fee are collected by a local association .

Open between 7 am and 5 pm daily .

Changing rooms and restrooms are available—not luxurious, but functional .

Why Visit

Family‑friendly: Considered safe for all ages, including children and seniors; with moderate water flow great for bathing .

Tranquil & scenic: Less crowded than Agaya Gangai, amid dense forest—ideal for a peaceful picnic or swim .

Refreshing experience: Water reportedly mild and soothing—guests often describe the natural shower as liberating .

What to Do & When to Go

Best visited during/just after monsoon (October–February) for strong water flow .

Enjoy swimming beneath the falls, relishing herbal water and forest surroundings .

It makes a lovely detour after visiting nearby Agaya Gangai or Arapaleeswarar Temple .

Tips for Visitors | Tip | Details | |---|---| | 🕖 Timing | Arrive early (7–9 am) to avoid crowds and get the best light | | 👕 Gear | Bring swimwear, towel, water‑safe bags, and extra clothes | | 💧 Stay hydrated | Carry water & snacks; shops may be limited | | 👟 Footwear | Wear grippy shoes; stone steps can be slippery | | 🔁 Combine trip | Visit after Agaya Gangai (approx. 1 km away) or on your return from Arapaleeswarar Temple |

Nearby Attractions

Agaya Gangai Falls: A larger waterfall (300 ft), more rugged trek with 1200 steps .

Arapaleeswarar Temple: Ancient Shiva temple at trekhead to Agaya Gangai .

Seeku Parai & Selur Viewpoints, Botanical Garden, Siddhar Caves, Tampcol Medicinal Farm, Vasalurpatty Boat House—all within a short drive .

Final Thoughts Masila Falls is a serene gem in Kolli Hills—effortless to reach, beautiful and calming, with facilities making it ideal for families. Whether you want a quick dip, a peaceful picnic, or a scenic break on a bike trip, it delivers. For hikers, pairing it with Agaya Gangai offers the full spectrum of what Kolli Hills' waterfalls can offer.

Maasila Falls in Kolli Hills presents a captivating, albeit challenging, natural experience. The trek to the falls is a significant undertaking, demanding a descent and subsequent ascent through dense, often slippery terrain. This strenuous journey, however, rewards visitors with the sight of a beautiful, multi-tiered waterfall cascading down the rocky landscape. The falls themselves are a spectacle, offering a refreshing escape from the heat. The secluded location fosters a sense of tranquility, making it ideal for those seeking solitude and a genuine connection with nature. The water is cool and inviting, perfect for a revitalizing dip after the arduous trek. However, the difficulty of the trek should not be underestimated. Proper footwear and physical fitness are essential. The lack of facilities and the remote location necessitate careful planning and preparation. While the natural beauty of Maasila Falls is undeniable, it is best suited for adventurous travelers willing to embrace the challenges of its terrain. For those who do, the reward is a truly memorable and immersive experience in the heart of...

The road to this falls is not so good. The entry for falls is Rs. 10 for adults which includes parking and the parking lot is very big and spacious. It's a small water falls which is very convenient for all ( including kids, women and aged ) and also has hand rails for safety. The path is also well maintained and very safe and changing room is also available for women near the falls. Small shops from village people sell fruits, vegetables and masala spices in parking area. But if u need good quality spices, it's better to buy in the solakadu market. U can get mooligai soup, kuzhi paniyaram, desi chicken thokku and kuzhi omlet here which are prepared by village people. On the path way aside falls, we have a big resting area and also play area for kids. Overall its a must see place in kolli hills where everyone can enjoy the...

This falls is very much enjoyable. compared to Aagaya gangai falls.. we had good time spending atleast 1 to 2 hours bathing multiple times. best part is it is less crowded / easily reachable from parking lot (like 10 minutes) and very safe for families. very good force of water which can be enjoyed by atleast 10 people at a time. plenty of greeneries and a small river to see while bathing under the falls. important thing is check with the hotel on the falls status before you go because there were few years in the past when the falls was dry it seems. car parking available. hire a cab from the hotel (safe and easy) if you have mobile signal problems to get the google maps working to reach the spot.

It will cost ₹10 per person as entrance fee and the falls closes by 5pm . We did not know the closing time was 5, by the time we came back it was 5.15pm and they had already closed the barrier . They did not even care to open the barrier whn we asked them to open it. We got down from our bike , ducked and crossed the barrier . God knows what would happen if we were in a car . They just collected the entrance fee and did not give us the ticket. The watchman was very rude and cheap to be honest. Travellers have polluted this place. Innerwear , plastic bottles were also found at the falls . Really poor maintenance . Only pro is if you're lucky u can sight peacocks here.
