Visited on 22nd June 2023 (Thursday) with family. Drove from Bangalore and right up till the temple steps. Parking is there for vehicles but lot of constructions also in progress so be careful where you park so there no JCB or lorries with rocks, around. No parking fees asked anywhere. You can buy some pooja items for Shivalinga at the foot of the hill before you climb. Only one small shop available and nothing else. Take water and necessary items if kids around, as nothing else is available on the hill. Toilets for men and woman is available as you go towards the hall where free meals are provided.
Huge lord Hanuman idol is chiseled in a rock and lot of monkeys around it. Did not find any monkeys aggressive but be careful while carrying bags of fruits or flowers. Lot of steep steps leading to the main temple. At least 100 steps and they are steep. Very difficult for elderly people and very small children as there is no lift or cable cars. Be careful while getting down the steps. It was raining when we went, and steps were slippery.
Had darshan of Siddhar. Being a Thursday, we were lucky to see him as he was moving around. He does not meet anyone or group individually. Not sure if there is any way of taking prior appointment with temple staff to meet him in person. Looks like he is around only on Thursday and Saturday between 1 pm to 4 pm. Sometimes you cannot even see him as he will be busy in overlooking the construction.
Read and see videos (YouTube) about him and the history of the temple on the net, before you go there. Had free annadanam which was good and sufficient (white rice, sambar, rasam, checkpeas, some curd rice as prasad). Lunch was served on the ground (no table or chairs) and served in adike patte plates. So those finding difficulty to bend and eat on the ground can also hold the plates in your hand and eat. Unlimited food offered with white rice soft and cooked well. Food is said to be served on all 365 days and no one goes back hungry.
You can sit there for hours, and no one will question you. The Shivalinga is very old (said to be 500 years old) and the place around is very quiet and one can meditate peacefully. Lot of idols of various deities and still many are being constructed. One can hear the sound of silence :) out there. Preist and every volunteer and staff around are helpful and will make an effort to answer your queries even of you do not know Tamil (which was the case with us).
Request everyone to make a visit once and take the Siddhar blessings. Once the temple is completed, it is being considered as the biggest Shiva temple in entire...
