Mannavanur Lake is 32 km away from Kodaikanal, it is accessible via road and can be reached within 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The roads are good & offer a scenic view enroute to the lake. Public transport is limited and has very few buses running through this route so it is advisable to plan your trip to this lake and return by the evening.

On the way to the lake you can see Poombarai Village and it's view from the hilltop is a stunning view one to be admired. We stopped near the Sai Baba Temple on the mountain road as we had better parking space to click a few snaps. The drive from Kodaikanal to the Mannavanur is visually enchanting with all the floura & fauna on both the sides as rich greenery greets you all the way.

Mannavanur Lake is a serene beauty, a paradise amidst the mountains, located in Mannavanur village. The lake is quite picturesque, you can see and admire it's majestic view as you drive down through the hills enroute. Its a breathtaking view of lake amid the lush green meadows with scenic hills at backdrop the enchanting picturesque view quite stunning.

Once you reach the lake you can buy entry tickets which cost ₹30 per person and they also offer boat rides, horse rides & zip line etc for which you can buy tickets in entrance to avoid getting scammed. A few wooden logs are placed as benches in the area for us to sit & relax to admire the mesmerizing view in the midst of this rejuvenating beauty and its surroundings.

Mannavanur Lake is perfect for a relaxing picnic with family & friends, if you can bring your foods & snacks. You can accommodate yourself in the small huts to relax & admire the beauty of nature, spend a memorable moment with your loved ones at this exotic lake.

One downside to visiting Mannavanur Lake is you will not find big shops or hotels as it is a small village. Few small shops selling tea and basic snacks, hence it is better to carry your food if you plan to spend the whole day at the lake and other...

Beautiful village, 35 kms from kodaikanal main town which will mesmerize you with lush greenery all around. Poombarai village; on the way to Mannavanoor, you will be taken away by the step farming and dhasapasana Murugan Temple Poombarai.

Mannavanoor: the two main parts are the sheep farm/ rabbit farm and the lake. The lake is surrounded by grass land which is very scenic and incredibly beautiful. There is crocale ride, play area for children and an average eat outs. Better to carry your own food and drinking water. Trekking: one needs to avail pass from forest department for trekking around the reserved forest area.An awesome place with a beautiful lake and hills all around. Entry fee is Rs.20 and for camera is Rs.25. One has to hike a small hill to reach the lake from entrance. Ample parking space is available outside and nothing to worry about safety. They offer horse riding, boating in lake, kayaking and trekking. The lake premises is open 365 days a year and since it is located quiet a distance from Kodaikanal, crowd will be less even during peak tourist season.

For nature lovers and photography enthusiasts can enjoy the place for a day. Good place for family, friends, couples and solo travelers.

Must carry items,

  1. Camera
  2. Good walking shoes
  3. Water bottle (couple of shops available inside near to entrance)
  4. Coolers
  5. Selfie stick

The lake when full is approx. 40ft deep and during lean season it is 15 to 20ft deep. So be careful while going for boating and kayaking. One big relief and what surprised me is the presence of full time rescue diver on shore of the...

Guarded by the mighty peaks of the Nilgiris on all sides, the quaint village of Poombarai is nestled away in the midst of the thickets of the Western Ghats, far away from the clamour of urban life. Poombarai, an idyllic hamlet with a calm, lazy atmosphere scented by eucalyptus trees and fertile farm lands, will remind you of a scene straight out of a fairy tale. 35 km away from the Kodai valley, Poombarai, should be on your travel itinerary if you are in search of a perfect destination to escape the monotony of everyday life and embark on a rejuvenating journey into the wilderness where you can appreciate nature's raw beauty.

Winding through the thick forests encircling the village of Poombarai is a trekking trail that will take you to the underexplored parts of the Nilgiris. Exploring the wilderness through a long walk along the trail while listening to the chirping of the birds and calls of the wild animals will be a refreshing experience for the trekkers.

At the end of the trails is the beautiful lake of Mannavur. This pristine freshwater lake, placed perfectly on the lap of the rolling hills of the Nilgiris, make a picturesque view for the trekkers to set a picnic and enjoy their time out in nature. The shores of Munnavur lake are home to a wide variety of fish and birds, making them a prime spot to pick if you are into birdwatching. As you sit on the park benches set on the shores of the lake and watch the waterfowl playing in the blue waters and listen to the songs of the birds in the woods, you won’t notice...
