Minister Kadambur C Raju, on Saturday, said that the water sports complex, which was inaugurated at Muthu Nagar beach park in Tuticorin, would provide the much-needed recreational place for the locals and they would not have to travel long distances to spend quality time with their family.He inaugurated the water sports facility, which would be run by a private organisation in Tuticorin, in the presence of Tuticorin district collector Sandeep Nanduri and Tuticorin Corporation commissioner Dr Alby John Varghese, on Saturday. Water sports such as jetski, wind surfing, banana ride, bump ride and stand-up board were also introduced. He said that earlier, people of Tuticorin spent a lot of money on travelling for spending time with their families; however, this facility would help them enjoy their spare time at a minimal cost. The water sports complex has been set up on public-private partnership (PPP) facility.Other sports such as speed boating, family boat rides, snorkeling,scuba diving and fishing as a sport would be gradually introduced. This new facility will help enhance tourism in the region and draw foreign tourists as wells as local people from other towns and state to Tuticorin, he added. Twenty e-toilets will also be established in Tuticorin under thesmart city project at a cost of 1.20 crore. Four of these toilets were inaugurated in the beach park on Saturday, along with the water sports. These e-toilets are unmanned and are programmed to self-clean.
