Shri Bragathambal Temple (AraikasuAmman) — Attraction in Tamil Nadu

Temple is built on a mount by carving the mount. This looks really good . Built by the king of puthukottai.

To reach the temple from puthukottai bus stand , you to hire an auto rickshaw. They will ask you 300rupees if you bargain you can save 60 rs max. But make sure u visit another nearby temples as well. If you have a car then it is 10 mins drive from puthukottai bus stand .

Don't hire any auto rickshaw because they ask you 50ruppes for less than 1km distance. About the temple now... You can see the kokarneswar uphill (not very high but 10 feet) above the brahathambal sanathi. There is a pond (water tank) built by carving the top the mount such a way it holds good amount of water. The steps towards the roof top water tank is bit skiddy but worth entering. The holy statues are done Abhisheka with the water taken from the water tank (sacred pond). It is said the tank never went dry till date. I don't see any algae formation on the water.

Few places looks unbuilt but not sure that is the design or not unbuilt.

There is a tree inside the temple looks really old and maintained. Temple is clean and good. This will be opened from morning 6 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM everyday.

Priest and Poojas looks authentic . Brahathambal sanathi is really good and said to be powerful goddess.

All the deities are present in the cow's body. Mainly Mahalakshmi resides behind it. Even seeing a cow, touching it and worshiping it will remove sins. Kamadenu, a sacred cow, worshiped Lord Shiva at Tirukokarnam in Pudukottai district. If you worship Him, you will get crores of blessings.

One day Indra's council met in Devaloka. Indra got angry when everyone else had arrived except Kamadenu and cursed her "You who came late, will be born as a wild cow in the world".

Born as a wild cow, it carried the tirtha in its ears and performed abhishekam to Shiva every day. 'Katu' is called 'karnam' and cow is called 'go'. Hence the place was called 'Ko Karnam'.

Shiva, who wanted to test the cow, once appeared in the jungle in the form of a tiger and prevented her. Kamadenu said "Don't stop me from going to worship Shiva! I will become your prey after I finish the puja and come back. I swear by Shiva."

The cow left after the tiger agreed. The cow returned shortly to fulfill the vow. Delighted, Shiva disguised his tiger form and appeared as Shiva Lingam. He himself is here in the name of 'Kokarneswarar'. Later on a shrine for Goddess Prahatambal was erected. Built by Mahendravarma Pallava king, it is a cave temple, with the entrance facing south and the shrines facing east. In the mandapam next to the Vinayagar shrine, Kamathenu's Shiva Puja and scenes from the Ramayana are found painted. You can have darshan of Lord Shiva in Nayanmar shrine on Rishab. அருள்மிகு பிரகதாம்பாள் (கோகணேஸ்வரர் , மகிளவணேஸ்வரர்) திருக்கோயில், திருக்கோவர்ணம் - 622 002, புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்டம்.

தல சிறப்பு: இது ஒரு குடவரைக் கோயில். இங்கு அரைக்காசு அம்மன் தனி சன்னதியில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறாள். ஏதேனும் பொருள் தொலைந்தால் "அரைக்காசு அம்மனுக்கு காணிக்கை' எனக்கூறி சிறிதுவெல்லத்தை எடுத்துவைத்துவிட்டுதேடினால் உடனே கிடைத்துவிடும்.

திருவிழா: சித்திரை கொடி ஏற்றம் - 10 நாள் திருவிழா ஆடிப்பூசம் -11 நாள் திருவிழா புரட்டாசி - நவராத்திரி திருவிழா (அம்பு போடும் திருவிழா)- 10 நாள் திருவிழா. தைப்பூசம் -10 நாள் திருவிழா மாசி திருவிழா - 10 நாள் திருவிழா விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி, நவராத்திரி உற்சவம், கந்தர் சஷ்டி விழா, கார்த்திகை தீப விழா, மார்கழி திருவாதிரை ,ஆருத்ரா தரிசனம், தை வெள்ளி , மாசி மகம் , பங்குனி உத்ரம் ஆகிய தினங்களில் கோயிலில் அபிசேக ஆராதனைகள் நடக்கும். ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் கலந்து கொள்வர். தவிர அமாவாசை, பவுர்ணமி, பிரதோச நாட்களில் கோயிலில் பக்தர்கள் பெருமளவில் கூடுவது வழக்கம்.

பொது தகவல்: இத்தலத்திற்கு அருகில் விருத்தபுரீஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், சுந்தரேஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், சத்திர மூர்த்தி பெருமாள் திருக்கோயில், ஆத்மநாத சுவாமி திருக்கோயில், சிகாநாதர் திருக்கோயில் ஆகிய திருத்தலங்கள் அமைந்துள்ளது.

பிரார்த்தனை இத்தலத்து ஈசனை வணங்கினால் சாப விமோசனம் கிடைக்கும். மேலும் , ஏதேனும் பொருள் தொலைந்தால் "அரைக்காசு அம்மனுக்கு காணிக்கை' எனக்கூறி சிறிதுவெல்லத்தை எடுத்துவைத்துவிட்டுதேடினால் உடனே கிடைத்துவிடும்.

இவை தவிர திருமண பாக்கியம் வேண்டுவோர், குழந்தை பாக்கியம் வேண்டுவோர் இத்தலத்தில் வணங்கினால் நிச்சயம் வேண்டுதல் நிறைவேறும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை.

நேர்த்திக்கடன்: வெல்லம் வைத்து அம்மனுக்கு பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்தல் சிறப்பு. தவிர மஞ்சள் பொடி, திரவிய பொடி ஆகியவை படைத்து வழிபடலாம். இறைவனுக்கு நைவேத்யம் செய்துவிட்டு கோயிலுக்கு வரும் பக்தர்களுக்கு பிரசாதம் தரலாம். இவை தவிர பக்தர்களுக்கு அன்னதானம் வழங்கலாம்.

தலபெருமை: சிவபெருமான் காமதேனுவுக்கு மோட்சம் தரக் காரணமாக இருந்த சிவ தலம். கிழக்கு பார்த்திருக்கும் கோகணேஸ்வரர் சன்னதி. குடவரைக் கோயில். பிரகதாம்பாள் புதுக்கோட்டை மன்னரோடு நேருக்கு நேர் பேசிய தெய்வம் என்று வரலாற்று கதை ஒன்று கூறுவதால் பிரகதாம்பாளை பேசும் தெய்வம் என்றே அழைக்கின்றனர்.

பாறையின் மீதே கட்டப்பட்ட குடவறைக் கோயில்கள் கொண்ட மிகப் பழமையான கோயில்.

தல வரலாறு: காமதேனுவுக்கு தேவேந்திரனால் சாபம் ஏற்பட்டு தேவலோகத்திலிருந்து பூலோகத்துக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தது.பின்பு கபில மகரிஷி, மங்கள மகரிஷி ஆகியோரை சேவித்து அவர்கள் அனுகிரகம் பெற்று தினந்தோறும் காசி போய் கங்கை நீரை கொண்டு வந்து ஈஸ்வரனுக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்து விட்டு மீதியை பாறையை கீறி அதில்விட்டு விடு என்று சொல்கிறார்கள்.பசுவின் பக்தியை சோதிக்க ஈஸ்வரன் புலியின் ரூபம் எடுத்து திருவேங்கை வாசல் வந்து சோதிக்கிறார். பசுவின் பக்தியை அறிந்து சாப்பிட்டுவிடுவேன் என்று இறைவன் பயமுறுத்தினார். பசுவோ விரத பூஜையை முடித்து விட்டு வருகிறேன் என காமதேனு, புலியிடம் (ஈசனிடம்) சொல்லி இங்குள்ள சுவாமியை வணங்கி விட்டு மீண்டும் செல்ல அங்கு திருவேங்கைவாசலில் காமதேனுவுக்கு மோட்சம் கிடைக்கிறது. இத்தகைய சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த இக்கோயில் மிகச் சிறந்த குடைவறைக் கோயிலாக...
