Ulagalandha Perumal (Trivikrama Perumal) Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. Here, the presiding deity is called Thehaleesa Perumal (Aayanaar). There are also shrines for Lakshmi Narasimhar, Lakshmi Varahar, Vaamanar, Lakshmi Narayanar, Vishnu Durgai, Pushpavalli Thaayar, Venugopala Swamy, Veera Anjaneyar in the temple. Within Lakshmi Narasimhar's shrine, Matsya, Kurma and Rama-Seetha-Lakshmana are also giving dharshans. It is one of the Pancha Krishna Kshethrams, since Lord Vishnu was initially in the form of Lord Krishna. According to the legend, here Lord Vishnu showed himself in the form of Trivikrama Murthy because of the requests of the Azhwars.
It is one of the 4 main Ulagalandha Perumal temples in Tamil Nadu (others being Thiru Ooragam, Kanchipuram; Singanallur, Coimbatore; Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai) and this temple differentiates from others by the fact that, here the Lord Ulagalandha Perumal raises his right leg up towards the sky and left leg stays connected to land. The Lord is very happy that he got the first two requests he had asked to Mahabali Chakravarthy, so he holds the divine discus (Sudharshana Chakra) on his left hand and the conch on his right hand. He further asks Mahabali, where to place his third step in order to complete his boon he asked, by raising his index finger of another right hand upwards. His other left hand gives blessings to Mahabali's son Namuchi, who is worshipping the Lord's left foot. Brahma is pouring water on the lifted right leg of Lord Vishnu from the top. Mahalakshmi, Prahalada and Mahabali found standing on the left, and to the right, Sukracharya, Mrikandu Maharishi and his wife Mithravathi, Garuda, Poigai Azhwar, Bhoothath Azhwar, and Pei Azhwar are found. All the idols are found colorful (varnakalaabha), and carved from wood. There are no abhishekas performed on the idols. This is the only temple among the Divya Desams, where Durgai Amman is present in the temple, who is mostly featured in Shiva temples.
This temple is located in the banks of Thenpennai River in the town of Thirukkovilur, Kallakurichi District. Located at 35 km from Villupuram, 44 km from Kallakurichi, 35 km from Tiruvannamalai and 45 km from Ulundurpettai. The temple is open between 06:00 to 12:00 and 16:30 to...

One Alwar ( devotee of Lord Narayana) ventured out in the night into a thick Forest, chanting the name of Lord Narayana. All of a sudden, It started raining heavily. After getting drenched completely, the Alwar finds a tiny hutment and takes shelter in it by lying down.
A few minutes later, another Alwar approached the tiny hutment. Finding the hutment too small, the first Alwar gets up and offers space to the second Alwar, so that both of them, can sit together inside the tiny hut.
A few minutes later, another Alwar approached the tiny hut. Now there is no place for three persons even to sit inside the tiny Hut. So the first two Alwars invite the third Alwar inside the tiny hut, where all three of them can barely stand together, with their heads covered, during the downpour.
Suddenly, there is a flash of lightening in the Sky and all the three Alwars notice Lord Narayana in all His Glory in the Sky in the form of Lord Trivikrama, holding his Shankha ( Conch-shell) Chakra ( Discus) Gada ( Mace) and Padma ( Lotus), with His Left leg raised at 120 Degrees
All the three Alwars burst forth in a state of ecstasy and sing in praise of Lord Trivikrama ( Lord Narayana) one after another
These 100 odd Stanzas sung by these three Alwars, form the first Hundred verses of Nalariya-Divya-Prabandhanam, the Tamil treatise of Four Thousand Verses, in praise of Lord Narayana
The Three Alwars put forth their prayers that the Lord Trivikrama in all His Glory, should stay put Forever in the same place, so that Future Generations can have His Darshan in His manifestation as Lord Trivikrama
This is the Sthala-Purana, the epic behind the Vaishnava Divya-Desam in Thiru-Kovilur, where Lord Trivikrama, stands with His Left foot raised at 120 Degrees, and with the Sankha ( Conch) on His Right Finger and the Chakra ( Discus) on His Left Finger, a rare sight in any Temple of Lord Vishnu, instead of the...
