Sri Pushparatheswarar Temple, Gnayaru — Attraction in Tamil Nadu

Sitting at home all the time during covid 19 was very stressful, so we decided to travel.

Yesterday (24–4–2021) was pradhosham, so we decided we will visit a temple. We made up our mind to travel to this temple, since we wanted to visit this temple for quiet some time. We took the ORR route, and my god, the traffic was so heavy, especially lorries. Probably they wanted to avoid this lockdown on Sunday.

Drove steady and with lot of patience since the traffic was very chaotic on ORR and the approach road from the temple to ORR was also kind of jammed with so many lorries carrying rubbish, finally we managed to reach the temple. As we neared the temple, was kind of confused, since parking is a problem near this temple, finally found the parking place near the eastern entrance of the temple.

As we parked and entered, the pooja had already started. Glad to see a decent crowd in the temple, some with masks on, some without. Most importantly glad to see children running here and there.

Was so happy to learn so many new things from this temple visit. They are :

Temple is called Pancha Bhaskara kshetram. “Pancha” means five, and this is one of the five temples where sun god prayed here for relief from the curse he got from lord brahma. ( See photo to get the names of other 4 temples )Since sun god prays the Lord here, the temple does not have the navagraha statues.

Since the sun god prayed here for relief, the village got its name Gnayiru.

This village Gnayiru is the birth place of sangili naachiyaar one of the two wives of sundaramurthy swamigal.

Those with eye related problems or issues can visit this temple to pray and get relief.

Coming back, was so happy to witness the pradhosam pooja, it was done very nicely and neatly and differently also. The conch blowing was very new. The way they did the abhishekam for the urchava moorthy was kind of different. We recited our thevaram and thiruvasagam songs.

Temple faces east, Lord Pushparatheswar faces east. Ambal soundaryanayaki faces east and she is present on the right side of the Lord, away from the main sanctum sanctorum. One can enter the sanctum sanctorum from the south and from the east too. Rajagopuram present but on the southern side of the temple. Kodimaram present. Temple pond present but on the northern side of the temple.

One thing i couldn't understand, was why there are crocodile statues / figures on the roof of the mandapam. Normally you see the nandhi statues or Bhootha ganam but here in addition to nandhi sitting on the four corners, saw crocodile statues.

Parking is an issue. Normal days i think it wont be a problem, but on auspicious days it definitely create problems.

Temple not that big in size, but definitely with lot of history behind it. Felt so happy that we were able to visit this temple which we planned on visiting for quiet sometime. Worth a visit if you are...

A good place for both devotees of Lord Shiva and Rama..Also has a very powerful Hanuman.

The Surya Narayana having Narashima at His other back half is very famous to help u get what u want through a pooja done very specially with around 100+ people sitting and another 100 standing around on every 2nd and 4th Sundays between 9 am till 1.30 pm.

Going here empty stomach is good. Once u pray and start, sure u won't feel the hunger until 9.30am, after u tell your grievances to the lord through the Iyer there. That Iyerwho was very young in age, really attracted me more towards God, by the sincerity and devotion he has towards God and people, and at the time of abiseham, wow, no words to explain.

He does the abiseham, in such a way, that when pouring either the milk, curd, Santhanam or whatever it is, sees to that the statue is completely filled with it, which turns out so well, that the Lord's beauty is seen very clearly.

The temple never leaves us empty stomach. Morning a very Pongal Prasadam was given while after prayers had a very tasty sambar satham, tamerind rice and ofcourse the Iyer special curd rice.

The nearby compound is one of the oldest Sivan temple belonging to Palvas period. The Vinayagar statue with the features is awesome. Opposite to Lord Siva is another Lord, Suriya Narayanan. We can take from home two oil lamps and light them there with our wishes.

Going to this temple by two wheelers is risky for families, but either by the timed bus routes either from Redhills or Koyembu is an interesting and joyful riding, with the lakes and greenary all around, a few homes here and there, is so pleasent to the eyes.

Don't forget to buy some fresh vegitables from there, b4 starting off.

அருள்மிகு சொர்ணாம்பிகை உடனுறை புஷ்பரதேஸ்வரர் திருக்கோயில், ஞாயிறு கிராமம் சென்னை.

தல சிறப்பு: சித்திரை மாதப்பிறப்பின்போது, முதல் 7 நாட்கள் புஷ்பரதேஸ்வரர், சொர்ணாம்பிகை மீது சூரிய ஒளி விழுகிறது. அந்த நாட்களில் சிவனுக்கான பூஜையை, சூரியனே செய்வதாக ஐதீகம். எனவே, அன்று உச்சிக்காலத்தில் சிவனுக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்வதில்லை. சிவலிங்க பாணத்தில் மன்னனால் வெட்டப்பட்ட தழும்பு இருக்கிறது.இக்கோயில் சோழர்களால் கட்டப்பட்டது.

திறக்கும் நேரம்: காலை 7.30 மணி முதல் 11 மணி வரை, மாலை 4.30 மணி முதல் இரவு 7.30 மணி வரை திறந்திருக்கும். ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமைகளில் காலை 6 - 1 மணி வரையில் நடை திறந்திருக்கும்.

பிரார்த்தனை

சூரியன், கண் தொடர்பான நோய்களை நிர்ணயிக்கும் கிரகமாக இருப்பதால், பார்வையில் குறைபாடு உள்ளவர்கள் இங்கு சிவன், சூரியனுக்கு நெய் விளக்கு ஏற்றி வேண்டிக் கொள்கிறார்கள்.

பிரச்னையால் பிரிந்திருக்கும் தம்பதியர் சூரியனுக்கு கோதுமைப்பொங்கல், கோதுமை பாயசம் படைத்து வேண்டிக்கொள்கின்றனர்.

இங்குள்ள பல்லவ விநாயகரிடம் வேண்டிக்கொள்ள பொருளாசை, பதவி மீதான விருப்பம் குறையும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. பல் தொடர்பான நோயுள்ளவர்கள் இவருக்கு நெய் தீபம் ஏற்றி வழிபடுகின்றனர்.

நேர்த்திக்கடன்:

வேண்டுதல் நிறைவேறியபின்பு சிவன், அம்பாள், சூரியனுக்கு வஸ்திரம் அணிவித்து, அபிஷேகம் செய்து நேர்த்திக்கடன் நிறைவேற்றுகின்றனர்.

தலபெருமை:

மூலஸ்தானத்திற்கு முன்புள்ள மண்டபத்தில் சூரியன், புஷ்பரதேஸ்வரர் சன்னதியை பார்த்தபடி இருக்கிறார். இவர் எப்போதும் இங்கு சிவனை வழிபட்டுக்கொண்டிருப்பதாக ஐதீகம். சித்திரை பிறப்பின்போது, முதல் 7 நாட்கள் புஷ்பரதேஸ்வரர், சொர்ணாம்பிகை மீது சூரிய ஒளி விழுகிறது. அந்த நாட்களில் சிவனுக்கான பூஜையை, சூரியனே செய்வதாக ஐதீகம். எனவே, அன்று உச்சிக் காலத்தில் சிவனுக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்வதில்லை. ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமைகளிலும், சூரியன், வடக்கு நோக்கிய பயணத்தை (உத்தாரயண புண்ணிய காலம்) துவங்கும் நாளான மகர சங்கராந்தியன்றும் (தைப்பொங்கல்) சிவன், சூரியனுக்கு விசேஷ பூஜை செய்யப்படுகிறது. சூரியன், பிற கிரகங்களுக்கு தலைமை கிரகம் என்பதால், இங்கு நவக்கிரக சன்னதி கிடையாது. பிற கிரகங்களால் தோஷ பாதிப்பிற்குள்ளானவர்கள், அந்தந்த கிரகத்திற்குரிய நாட்களில் இவருக்கு சிவப்பு நிற வஸ்திரம் அணிவித்து, நெய் மற்றும் கோதுமையில் விளக்கேற்றி வழிபடுகிறார்கள்.

பல்லவ விநாயகர்: விநாயகர் தலையில் கிரீடத்துடன்தான் இருப்பார். ஆனால் இங்கு கிரீடம் இல்லாத விநாயகரை தரிசிக்கலாம். தந்தைக்கு மரியாதை செய்யும் விதமாக, இவர் இவ்வாறு காட்சி தருவதாக சொல்கிறார்கள். இவரை "பல்லவ விநாயகர்' என்றழைக்கிறார்கள். இவரிடம் வேண்டிக்கொள்ள பொருளாசை, பதவி மீதான விருப்பம் குறையும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. கண்வ மகரிஷி இங்கு சிவனை வழிபட்டிருக்கிறார். இவருக்கும் இங்கு சிலை இருக்கிறது. பல் தொடர்பான நோயுள்ளவர்கள் இவருக்கு நெய் தீபம் ஏற்றி வழிபடுகின்றனர். கோஷ்டத்தில் யோக தெட்சிணாமூர்த்தி, யோக பட்டையுடன் காட்சி தருகிறார். கால பைரவர், கமல விநாயகர், வள்ளி, தெய்வானையுடன் சுப்பிரமணியர், காசி விஸ்வநாதர் ஆகியோரும் இருக்கின்றனர். கோயிலுக்கு வெளியில் சூரிய புஷ்கரிணி உள்ளது.

தல வரலாறு: தேவலோக சிற்பியான விஸ்வகர்மாவின் மகள் சமுக்ஞாவை சூரியன் மணந்து கொண்டார். நாளுக்கு நாள் சூரியனின் வெப்பத்தன்மை அதிகமாகவே சமுக்ஞா, தன் நிழலை உருவமாக்கி கணவனிடம் விட்டுச் சென்றுவிட்டாள். எமன் மூலமாக இதையறிந்த சூரியன், மனைவியை அழைத்து வரச் சென்றார். கிளம்பும்போது சிவபூஜை செய்தார். அப்போது ஒரு ஜோதி வானில் தோன்றி நகர்ந்தது. சூரியன் அதை பின்தொடர்ந்தான். அந்த ஜோதி, இங்கு தடாகத்தில் பூத்திருந்த தாமரை மலரில் ஐக்கியமானது. அதிலிருந்து தோன்றிய சிவன், சூரியனுக்கு காட்சி கொடுத்து, மனைவியுடன் சேர்ந்து வாழும்படியாக அருளினார். பின்பு சூரியனின் வேண்டுதலுக்காக இங்கேயே எழுந்தருளினார்.

சூரியன் பூஜித்த லிங்கம், தாமரை மலருக்குள்ளேயே இருந்தது. பிற்காலத்தில் இப்பகுதியை ஆட்சி செய்த சோழ மன்னன் ஒருவன், இவ்வழியே சென்றான். அப்போது தடாகத்திலிருந்த ஒரு தாமரை மட்டும் மின்னிக் கொண்டிருந்ததைக் கண்டான். அதை பறிக்க நினைத்தவன், நெருங்கியபோது தாமரை நகர்ந்து சென்றதே தவிர, கையில் சிக்கவில்லை. ஆச்சர்யமடைந்த மன்னன், தன் வாளால் அதை வெட்டவே, ரத்தம் பீறிட்டது. இதைக்கண்ட மன்னன், பார்வை இழந்தான். வருந்திய மன்னன் சிவனை வேண்டினான். அவனுக்கு காட்சி தந்த சிவன், கண் பார்வை கொடுத்ததோடு, தான் அவ்விடத்தில் லிங்க வடிவில் இருப்பதாக கூறினார். அதன்பின் மன்னன் தடாகத்தின் கரையில் லிங்கத்தை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து கோயில் எழுப்பினான். தாமரை புஷ்பத்தில் எழுந்தருளியவர் என்பதால் சிவன், "புஷ்பரதேஸ்வரர்'' என்று...
