Often referred to as "Vada Srirangam" (North Srirangam), this temple mirrors the sanctity and design of the famed Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam. Believed to be over a millennium old, the temple's origins trace back to the Chalukya dynasty. Historical accounts suggest that a Chalukya king, enamored by the Srirangam temple's magnificence, commissioned this temple to bring the divine presence of Lord Ranganatha to his realm . The village's name, Devadanam, meaning "gift of the gods," underscores its sacred heritage, possibly indicating a land grant or divine offering. The presiding deity, Lord Ranganatha, reclines in a Bhoga Sayanam posture on the five-headed serpent, Adisesha. This colossal idol measures approximately 18 feet in length and 5.5 feet in height, making it one of the largest of its kind. Uniquely, the idol is crafted entirely from Salagrama stones, sacred fossils revered in Vaishnavism. Even the deity's ornaments are intricately carved from these stones, a rarity among temples. Within the sanctum sanctorum, Lord Brahma emerges from the deity's navel, while goddesses Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi flank his feet. The presence of Thumburu Maharishi with a veena and Sri Anjaneyar adds to the temple's spiritual ambiance. The temple complex features a Rajagopuram (main tower), Dwajasthambam (flagstaff), and separate shrines for Garudalwar, Ranganayaki Thaayar (consort of Lord Ranganatha), and Chakkrathalwar. A sacred Putrukovil (ant hill) and a Pavazha Malli (Parijatham) tree, considered the temple's sacred tree, are also present. A unique tradition involves lighting ghee lamps on Amavasya (new moon) and Fridays for seven consecutive weeks, believed to alleviate financial hardships and grant child blessings.

Went on a Sunday afternoon with family and had a great darshan of Shree Ranganayaki Thaayar and Ranganatha Perumal at Devadhanam temple. Presiding deity and cohorts bless devotees abundantly with their divine presence. 27/10/2024, 4-5 pm. Unforgettable experience as this place is known as Vada Srirangam. Travel by your own means as there are limited options of public transport. Can go by auto from Minjur railway station but not sure of the rate.

One has to see the lively beautiful face of Sri Ranganatha Swamy and be sublime. He is personally present there. Those Souls will certainly lead a very happy life forever. Nice place and serene atmosphere to meditate. Chant Sri Ranga Gadhyam and please Sri Ranganatha Swamy. Make sincere efforts to recover the vast misappropriated properties of Sri Ranganatha Swamy and thus try to get his mercies by pleasing Him.

Sri Ranganatha Perumal Temple in Devadanam near Minjur and Ponneri. This temple built more than 1000 years by King Chalukya. This temple is also known as North Srirangam. Main very big diety Sri Ranganathar in saligrama stone in anandha Sayana Kolam. We must visit and have Darshan.

This temple is located near Minjur. From Minjur 5 kms. Very good road facility now. Share auto available from Minjur railway station. We can reach this temple by traveling from Chennai to Minjur by Train. A good one hour drive from the Chennai takes us to this Devadanam village.

Now, let us know more about the temple and other information about this Devadanam temple.

Near Trichy, Tamilnadu Sri Rangam is said to be well known temple in which he gives the seva as "Sri Ranganathar" on Aadhi Seshan. There are lots of temples other than Sri Rangam, the Perumal gives his sayana thirukkolam like Aadhi Rangam, Thirukkadal malai, Thiruvananthapuram, etc. Other than Divyadesam, purana - Abimana sthalams, the Perumal also gives the some sayana kolam in various temples also. And one among those temple is Devadanam, where Sri Ranganathar is giving his bhaktas the same sayana kolam as that of the other temple.

As we move on further into the temple, we can get the dharshan of the Moolavar. The thirukkolam of the Moolavar reminds us as if we are inside Sri Rangam temple. The Moolavar is very big and he resides on the five faced - Aadhiseshan. The Perumal is facing His thiru mugam towards east direction in Bogha sayana thirukkolam. The beauty of the Perumal has to be explained. The beautiful eyes which is equivalent to the lotus flower, on the entire thiru meni of the Perumal, Salagramam are found. From the Naabhi (the stomach part) Lord Brahma arises and towards the thiru vadi Sri Devi (Thiru magal) and Bhooma devi (Nila Magal) are found. Do you wish to have Darshan of Lord Ranganathar near Chennai? The right place is Sri Ranganatha Perumal Temple at Devadhanam near Minjur/Ponneri. The temple is situated in a small village and is surrounded by lush green fields. A temple as old as 1,000 years, it has been built by Chalukyas who wished to worship Lord Ranganathar of Srirangam here itself. The Chalukya king had a darshan of the Lord in Sayana Thirukolam (reclining posture) getting tired after giving away the grains in the Markkal/Padi (Wooden measure used to measure paddy) for feeding the world during the harvest season. He decided to build a temple in this place. As you enter the temple, you can see the Dwajasthambam and Balipeedam and Garudazhwar. When you circumambulate, you can have darshan of Ranganayaki Thayar, Chakarthazhwar, Naga Putru, Andal Thayar and Hanuman in separate Sannadhis. It is incredible to see a small temple housing such a huge deity of Lord Ranganathar! Lord Ranganathar lies in reclining posture under Aadhiseshan, resting His head on Marakkal. His right rests hand under His crown of hair and left hand extended over His body. Maatha Lakshmi appears at the feet of the Lord with a lotus in Her hands and Bhooma Devi, with blue water lily in Her hands. Opposite the Lord's Moola Vigraham, are Thumburu Maharishi and Bhakta Anjaneya. Lord Ranganatha Moolavar is about 5 feet in height and about 18 feet in length. The Saligramha for deity’s Thirumeni was brought by Chalukyas from North India and hence there is no Thaila Kappu (application of oil) as done in other shrines. And the location is very rightly it is also known as Uttara Srirangam or Vada Srirangam. The village Devadhanam is named so as it was considered to have been given by the Devas. The Temple is well maintained and the Archagar in the Sanctum provides a detailed Sthala Puranam (History of the temple) The village is enchanting, beautiful and dotted with paddy fields. Also could see a lot of shrimp farming around. Drive carefully as long vehicles pass through the narrow village roads. You can reach this place from Chennai by two wheeler or four wheeler. Prefer the route via Red Hills, Ponneri (Thachur Road) as the route through Minjur (turn right at Kattur Road for Devadhanam) has lot of container traffic and the road is battered. In either case you need to cross a train level crossing and hence plan the trip accordingly. Plan for about 3 hours up and down. Temple timings 7 am to 11 am and 4.30 pm to 7.00 pm. In times of Corona, Pooja Materials including have to left behind and the Archagar will use this after...
