This temple has become a place where groups of people with a head person clad in white and his mouth filled with paan and his followers from the village, grab money from people who visit the temple, especially from families who come there to pray for a successful wedding. As soon as a family gets out of their vehicle they surround them demanding money, at first 100 for a archanai ticket and then once you go in, it's 500 for a bag with a coconut that looks like a slightly swollen banana, looks poor and weak and three or four flowers with a turmeric and a yellow thread. That seemed ridiculous and after hearing from the Pujari there, these money grabbing idiots charge as per their wish without any rules set by the management. The Pujari are being threatened by these gangs and they either have to abide and get a commission or leave their job. Most people who visit are scared and shrouded by strong blind beliefs that they pay the money without hesitation. The temple itself is thousand years old and with continuous puja its divinity is unquestionable. But the gangs are completely ruining it. There are cinema songs blaring right outside the temple. The temple is maintained in an extremely poor condition. We are only allowed to visit the deities as per their command with no peace nor can we pray as we wish. There was a guy peeing in the temple's outer praharam and no one is noticing or being bothered by it. There are literally toilets right outside the temple! I was forced to pay 700 and participate in a puja that lasted for five mins with no bhakthi or mantram or shlokam recital by the Pujari. When they provided the vibhuthi and Kunkumam as Prasad they were loudly instructing to give 100 rs as dakshina and no prayer or mantram. They took back the yellow thread which is usually given back to be tied in the wrist but they took it back only to reuse it and give to the next person. There was zero divinity and just people instructing to provide money which is NOT used to benefit the temple, its infrastructure or the Pujari performing the pujas but stolen by the gangs. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Government SHOULD interfere and bring this temple back to its former glory! The gangs need to be thrown out and nobody should be forced to do anything inside the temple. The inner and outermost praharam must be clean and neat and Garbagraham must definitely be clean at all times. People's heartfelt prayers to the Lord and Devi will be more than enough to get their wishes to fruition. A puja and Archanai should be done without demanding any money and the bhakthas will provide them as per their capacity. This change has to happen and I've written this review to create awareness among people who have visited and will be visiting the temple. This is my first step towards taking an action and I'll do more in the coming days to bring about the right change. Don't compromise or accept despicable acts and behaviors as such in this or any...

I strongly suggest you, as I foolished by them today (07.07.19), don't spend even a single paisa inside or outside of this temple besides that Rs.150 which you spent for the 'archana bag' bought at tocken counter. You can give money to real beggers outside the temple premises, but not to these well dressed beggers inside the temple.
Married couples after successful completion of thier prayers to goddess kokilambal and unmarried singles also visiting this temple. People coming to this temple everyday and it is crowdy place.
This temple is 'Nithya Kalyana' shekthra. There is no thosa, no ammavashya, no limitations for marriage.
Don't buy anything from outside. What you needed is an archchana bag provided in temple token counter at nominal price. At Rs.150, you get "archchana cheetu" and "Pooja samans". It is enough, you enter inside temple.
There may be already Pooja is going on. Don't try teaching near to front row. But wait in last row end, as the next batch is going to allowed from the que waiting in the end.
There is no entrence allowed from frontside. So don't go front.
After Pooja finished the temple staff will ask compulsory payment of "thakshana" while giving "mala" to you. But ignore it, collect your mala.
Also there will be one more attempt to foolish you (what I call it in my words is 'madura Malli fraud', yes that Vadivelu comedy). It is done with the help of officials to steal your money. Detailed below..
After finishing the Pooja they will let you go out with prasadham. But there will be some outsiders selling thier prasadha bag as Pooja prashadham for who purchased archchana cheetu. You may think it is a prasadha bag offered by temple for free if cost. But they collect RS.100-150 from you for that. What you will find inside it is snacks, which might cost maximum 50 rupees (that snacks bag with its items found in this review photo section). You might have found prasadham stores in most tempels you have visited. That's name only prasadham, but the product sold is not prasadham. It is really a snacks but nothing more than that. And they sell ion the name of a store and it is optional to you to buy or not buy. But here in this Thirumanancheri temple they are selling it inside in a fraudulant manner in the name of temple. You can see the bag printing which shows the name of temple and diety but nothing about the store name.
Actually temple administration says don't buy anything from outsiders. Buy only the "Pooja bag" from its counter.
But for their commission income some officials are allowing somebody who is selling useless items in the name of 'prasadham' inside the temple itself. Don't buy it, it is not necessary, and it is useless. They will compel
Why do you let these people to steal your money in the...
Read moreThe shrine of Thirumananjeri is closely associated with legends that tell the story of Shiva's marriage to Parvati. Legend has it that Parvati once expressed her desire to have the experience of an earthly wedding to Shiva. This story is believed to be in fulfillment of that wish expressed by her. A dispute in Mount Kailash occured over a game of chess. The story goes that God Shiva in his annoyance cursed Parvati to take the form of a cow and go to live on earth.
God Vishnu, upset over the events, wanted to reconcile the couple. He went to Shiva to plead his case. Shiva told Vishnu about Parvati's wish to experience a wedding on earth and assured Vishnu that all events would lead to that end. He also told Vishnu to take Parvathi, who was in the form of a cow, to bathe in the Cauvery so she could regain her original form.
Vishnu did so and soon Parvati was herself again. She was then instructed to go and live as the daughter of Bharata Muni, a saint living nearby. The story goes that Bharata Muni approached Shiva for Hiis hand in marriage to Parvati, thereby granting her wish that she be married on earth. This episode is also associated with another Paadal Petra SthalamTiruvelvikudi which is located nearby.
It is firmly believed even today that those men and women whose marriages are getting delayed due to various circustances, will soon get married if they come to this Sthalam and worhsip God Shiva.
Thirumanancheri is where the divine marriage of Shiva and Parvati took place, and today, people flock to this temple, praying for an early marriage, thanking the lord for their marriage, and praying for children.
This temple is fairly a large one and covers an area of about 3.5 acres. A moat surrounds the main sanctum of the temple, and the waters of the moat are said to represent the seas which gathered to witness the marriage. Images of Ganapathi, Nataraja, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhavar, Bhramma and Durga adorn the niches of the sanctum. There is also a shrine to Varadarajar (Vishnu) with his consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi in this temple. The temple is crowded at all times of the year, showing the importance of marriage in hindu culture. One is supposed to offer special prayers to the lord, after which they are given the garlands worn by the god and goddess. They are supposed to keep this carefully till they get married, and then after the marriage, come back to the temple with his/her spouse, wearing the same garlands, and once again offer prayers as...
