The Heavenly Abode of Lord Shiva : The Holy Velliangiri Hills, also known as The Southern Kailash and Sapthagiri ( 7 Hills ) Age of the Holy Velliangiri Mountains: The available Earth and Geological science says, Age of The Holy Velliangiri Hills ( The Sapthagiri or 7 Hills ) could be around 4000 Million Years, Velliangiri Hills are situated at The Western Ghats which comes under Archean Eon Geological Time Scale ( some 4000 to 2500 Million Years Ago ). I’m not going to write a Review on the Holy Velliangiri Hills, because my Life span would be around 60 or 65 years, I need to get vanished by 2040, not a Moral endeavor to write about an eternal element, by a Mortal or temporal body like me.

Surely you can take my words as a Good Guide for a Holy Pilgrimage Yatra or a Trekking Trail to The Holy Velliangiri Hills.

The Holy Velliangiri Hills are no way related or annexed with any Foundations or Organizations. The Holy Velliangiri Hills does not have any official or unofficial link with Trekking Clubs or Adventure Clubs or Nature Societies or NGOs. The Holy Velliangiri Hills does not cure your Diseases and Health Problems, do not aim for a Therapeutic recovery by climbing the Hills. Do not try to get any assistance from local Touts, Brokers or Agents to climb the hills; you will be end up with Severe Penalty from the Forest Department if you violate the Rules and Regulations. The Holy Velliangiri Hills comes under the Control of Government of Tamil Nadu Forest Department’s Coimbatore Forest Circle, sub circle domination of The Forest Range Officer, Boluvampatti Range, Iruttupallam, Coimbatore - 641114. The Holy Velliangiri Hills is not a common religious or social Pilgrimage spot or Trekking Trail, Civilian Visits are strictly banned or Restricted with Tamil Nadu Forest and Wildlife Areas (Regulation of Trekking) Rules, 2018 USUALLY THE TAMIL NADU FOREST DEPARTMENT ALLOWS DEVOTEES & TREKKERS TO ENTER THE HOLY VELLIANGIRI HILLS YEARLY ONCE, STARTING FROM MARCH TO MAY MONTH ONLY, AGAIN YOU NEED TO CONFIRM THE EXACT DATES WITH THE DISTRICT FOREST OFFICER, COIMBATORE DIVISION AND THE FOREST RANGE OFFICER, BOLUVAMPATTI RANGE, IRUTTUPALLAM, COIMBATORE – 641114. DO NOT PLAN YOUR TRAVEL ITINERARY WITHOUT QUERYING THE ABOVE MENTIONED STATUTORY GOVERNMENT OFFICERS. The Holy Velliangiri Hills comes under Tough Trek class, surely not for senior citizens, people with Cardiology and Respiratory ailments, Diabetes and Epilepsy ailments should avoid taking a Pilgrimage or Trekking Trail to this place. The Holy Velliangiri Hills has an unique Climatic pattern, Day time is Hotter and Nights are Moderately Cold, constant wind blows are experienced in all 7 Hills, at the 6th and 7th Hill elevations, strong wind blows are common. You can climb either in the Morning or Evening as per your Endurance, Energy and Climatic Tolerance Level, people feel easier to Elevate if they start by 6 pm in the evening, some feel 10 pm Trail Initiation is comfortable. Do not buy a new trekking shoes or sports shoes just a day before your Trekking, because the Terrain earth will not harmonize with New pair of shoes, better wear your regular used sports shoes, so that, your foot and legs will be easily adaptable, you can wear a thick terry socks, if you do not wish to walk with a shoes, always bring a spare socks set. Do not pack regular hotel foods like Poori, Chappati, Parotta or Dosa, please have citrus fruits like Ripe Orange or Mosambi, well ripened Bananas, Water Melons, Cucumbers, avoid plastic bags, use Newspaper for wrapping Foods. Wear Thick Woolen or Leather Jerkins, Thermal wears, use Ear plugs, so that cold winds will not sensitize your ear canal, ear plugs or cotton balls will avoid Headache triggered by Cold wind blows. Never try to make an open fire for comforting yourself in Cold Climate, better avoid Match Boxes, Lighters, avoid making open fire in the Hills. For any Information call The The Forest Range Officer, Boluvampatti Range, Iruttupallam,...

I would like to share my experience of trekking . We went last weekend(27th March). We took train from Chennai to reach Coimbatore . Went to Isha and Adhi yogi on saturday morning , Had our lunch at isha . It was very nice . From Isha , We have Share Autom which cost 10 rs per person to reach Poondi ( Velliangiri Hill Adivaram ) , We took Rest for 2 to 3 hrs . Evening We took bath ( Facilities are normal ), had annadhanam rice , visited the velliangiri temple located down hill . Once done , We took Moongil Stick ( Highly highly Recommended even though if you are professional trekker). Ladies between 10 years and 50 years not allowed for this trek .Queue was very high for baggage checking from volunteer to avoid plastic. So our team of 15 people started the first hill at 7:30 PM with torch light. Myself and my friend were very enthusiastic to proceed first . Since We used to go for walking 8 km daily , we felt it was ok otherwise it is full of stone step , it will drain your energy off. But once you see Vellai Vinayagar ( First Hill Completion ) you will get a happiness which will make you to move further .After First hill , You will see shop which sells Lemon Soda , Biscuits . Then again we started with our journey to second hill which is having steps as well as Vazhakku parai . Compared to first hill , it is easy to climb . At the End of second hill , You will find Pambatti Siddhar Cave where you will get sunai water . Since this is season time , you will find shops . Third and Fourth again it is steep and little tough , At the end of Fourth hill , you will see level road which goes up and down . It will go on on on ,bt after crossing bheeman stone , you will see the 7th hill . Do not get frightened on that as you need to go down the 6th hil and then have to climb 7th hill . Down part of 6th hill is very steep and slippery . At the end of 6th hill , you can take bath and go ahead with 7th hill . Now comes toughest part , 7th hill is open and very steep , you need to climb with both the hands , it will go on and on . But After reaching the top you will get satisfied . We stayed in the Top of hill for 3 hrs , it was damn cold ( please bring necessary sweater ) . After seeing the sun rise we started back down hill which is tough compared to going up hill . Since sunday was panguni Uthiram , more lakh climbed due to which jam happened which made us to stand 3 hrs at same place . We atlast reached down at 4 pm in evening . Finally we achieved it . Key points to be noted : mind set should be there to climb , few people in our group came down in 2nd hill itself , few after seeing 7th hill returned back .So one must have self confidence in going further the hill .We survived with lemon soda , biscuit for 20 hrs ( due to jam in crowd while returning it took time ) else for climbing if you are fit , you can complete in 6 hrs and return by 7 to 8 hrs . Take Torch light while going in night ( preferred time to climb) , Glucose , you can wear shoe till 5th hill but remove it in 6 and 7th hill to avoid slipping . while return please wear shoe in first hill . But I recommend everyone to go for this trek . It will turn your mind , make you fully refreshed , healthy ,...

One of the Hardest Trekking we have done so far. From Bangalore we Boarded Ernakulam SF Intercity Express by 6:20 am at Cantonment Railway Station by 1:00 pm reached Coimbatore Junction. Had Lunch in Aryas Hotel opposite Railway station in Coimbatore. Had good full meals Lunch by Paying Rs. 130/-. In the same line to the right of the Hotel Boarded Bus to Poondi by Paying Rs. 60/- Reached the Velliangiri Foot Hills by 3:00 pm Prayed Lord Ganapathi, Lord Kanakabikai, Goddess Manonmani and Lord Velliangiri Andavar in the Temple. The Temple gives you good vibe so sat in the Temple for a while and proceeded to Climb by 3:45 pm Weather is very hot and Humid. We collected the Sticks which was left by the Trekkers at the entrance, Normally Rs. 30/- are charged for the New one at the counter. First Hill is Very steep which the drains all the energy if we try to walk too fast, we have to walk slowly and take frequent breaks to avoid exhaustion. If you are planning to Trekk Velliangiri carry Electrals with you to avoid Muscle Cramping. 2nd and 3rd Hill are equally challenging even though the Terrain slightly differs, difficult level is the same. At the end of 2nd Hill and 3rd Hill we come across water stream where we can refill the water bottle. Water is very cool and sweet better than any of the commercially packed water. There are many shops on the way which sells Snacks like Karumbatti Coffee, Kamba Cool, Butter Milk, Water Melon, Lemon Soda, Peanuts, Fritters, Buiscuits, Soft Drinks etc., after 3rd Hills shops don’t Sell the water. In the 3rd Hill refill the empty water Bottle. Carry Less Luggage as there are many shops on the way. There is a Cloak room available Behind the Temple where you can put all your unwanted Luggage. Just Carry Water Bottle, Dry Fruits, Light weight Thermal and Cap as it gets colder in the 7th Hills Before the starting of the 7th Hill we come across a water stream in the pool Devotees take a Holy Dip and proceed. Water here is Freezing. When we started climbing 7th Hill it was around 10:15 pm Breeze was strong and chill. Took out our Light weight Thermals and Woolen cap from the Bagpack wore it and proceeded At around 11:40 pm reached the Summit there were few Devotees present at the Top, which enabled us to Have Good Darshan and Pray without any disturbance. After the Darshan did Meditation and rested for some time. By 12:30 pm started the Descend reached the Bottom by 6:30 am Early Morning Devotees are served with Hot Breakfast in Front of the Temple. Annadhanam is done throughout the day for the Devotees in the Temple premises Prasadam can be purchased by paying Rs. 150/- in the shop belonging to the Temple. There are other commercial shops in the Temple Premises Boarded the Ernakulam SF Intercity Express by 12:40 pm at Poddanur, Train Departed the station by 1:15 pm Reached Bangalore by 10:00 pm with unforgettable Experience of the Velliangiri Trek. The next day the Leg Muscles were so sore the we had to keep ice pack. The Trek to be remembered for a long time.

Velliangiri Hills consists 7 mountains altogether which is located at Poondi Village which 34 kilometre far from Coimbatore city. Public transport facilities available from Gandhipuram, Coimbatore to Poondi Velliangiri Andavar temple foothills however I suggest to travel via own vehicle either two wheeler or four wheeler for time saving. Velliangiri Andavar temple is located at the foothills where the devotees can get bamboo sticks after paying Rs 30 approximately and start their holy yatra. It is advisable to carry enough water bottles and eatables without any plastic substances as it is not allowed. The first hill has steps and ends at Vellai Vinayagar temple followed by second mountain which has its pathway full of rocks also called as Valuku Paarai in Tamil. 3rd mountain doesn't have steps and we have to walk through the hard rocks which seems to be difficult to some extent. Almost all the mountains will be sloping except 4th and 5th since these two mountains gives you little bit relaxation by making people walk parlelly or make them walking on flat pathway. 6th Mountain will be challenging to some extent since we have to walk downwards to reach Sunai Falls also known as "SUNAI ARUVI" where we have to dump ourself into the water three times and can see the shiv lingh inside it during morning time. Now comes the last hill which will make you tough and hard feelings even it makes you scare due to its height of 6000 feet from sea level also by the time people reaches the starting point of 7th hill their body might be completely dry with less percentage of energy in it however the anticipation and curiosity of seeing Lord Shiva will take you to the top where you can worship Lord Vinayaga followed by Lord Shiva. People can rest themself for sometime to gain back the energy. The most important thing is that 7th hill top where Lord Shiva gives Dharsan will be above the clouds as we can see the clouds down to us. Shops will be available in all the mountains except 7th mountains. People can get cold drinks , water, cofee and so on. Herbal medicines and ointments are also available for ortho pains. Paambaati Sitthar cave is there at the second mountain. Fresh mountain water ( Also known as "SUNAI NEER") will flow through the mountain rocks which will be so tasty and good for health since it flows through all the herbals in the mountain. People can avail the same through the water bottles they carry. 4th mountain is also called as Tiruneermalai since the soil or sand from few places in this mountain seems to be Vibuthi or Thiruneer. This hill gives you a great scenary. All the eatables are being carried through locals carrying them on their head which i felt so pathetic. I'm not sure if they are paid enough. In my experience I felt very difficult while coming down rather than going up. It took me almost @ 14.5 hours to reach the foothills again. It is one of unforgettable experience in my life. May Lord Shiva bless everyone with peace and health...OM NAMAH SHIVAYA...HARA HARA MAHADEVA...Thanks...
