Built around 11th to 12th century times of the kanduru cholas as panagal is their ancient capital, architecture is very grand with four sanctums connected to the colorful central hall and unfortunately only 3/4 th of the restored structure from fallen ruins remains for two temple sanctum towers, only half remains for one sanctum and base ruins for the remaining sanctum. The common hall is beautiful with simple lamp style design pillars and nandi mantapam has immortal tiny pillar carvings in the form of faded Krishna satyabhama fighting with Indra for parijatha flower, amrutha madanam between gods and asuras, narasimha removing the intestines of hiranyakasipu, stories of ramayana war scenes, lively ravana lifting the Kailasha, mutilated varaha rescuing the earth and proud door guardians of the sanctum doors gives us an idea of how beautiful the temple could have been in the fortunate times. The outerwalls of sanctum towers has some lively carvings with expressions of helper assistants placed in adhoc manner during restoration, humble facial features of godess with small assistants, stylish postures of tiny standing vishnu, several tiny carvings of shiva parvati sitting on bull, vertical panels having wonderful sculpture in the form of trimurthy, nataraja dancing on apasmara, amorous couple shiva parvati teaching the art of procreation, garuda carrying vishnu and lakshmi, parvati as shakthi, kumara swamy with his wife flying on peacock, several apsara's holding lotus flowers, shiva as kaala bairava and finally parvati as mahisasura mardhini is worth visiting to feel the art left by the vanished kingdoms in the cosmic...

Pachala Someswar Temple

(Glorious Past and Ruined at Present)

Located at Panagal, Telangana. Panagal is located nearly 4 km from the district headquarters of Nalgonda and is well accessible by road. The ancient temple looks very casual from the outside, but once you step in the architecture tells you the actual story. The temple has 70 pillars with intricate carvings depicting stories of Vishnu and Shiva. Main shrine is dedicated to Shiva who is in the form of Linga made out of Green Onyx stone, hence the name Pachhala Someswara. There is huge beautifully carved Nandi who seems to come to life any moment. There is an archaeological museum on the site and many ruins around.

Pachala Someswara Temple is of great significance from architectural and sculptural point of view.

The ground plan of Pachala Someswara temple is markedly different from other shrines in Telangana. It has four shrines and these shrines are arranged three on the western side while there is only one on the eastern side with a common and large rectangular mandapam. The historic temple represents the rich legacy of Panagal region in Nalgonda district with its finest sculptural works.

Locals throng the temple during festival occasions From the inscriptional evidence found at Panagal and architectural style of the temple it is dated back to 11th-12th Century AD. Stepping into this ancient temple is like walking through a doorway to our past — a past where stone spoke, and every pillar whispered tales of devotion and artistry. Though the top of the temple bears the scars of Aurangzeb’s destruction, its soul still stands unshaken, wrapped in the beauty of carvings that have defied centuries. Here, the walls narrate the Ramayana. You will see Lord Narasimha frozen in the moment of slaying Hiranyakashyap, Lord Shiva and Parvati captured in eternal grace, Lord Ganesha radiating wisdom, and Lord Vishnu in divine splendour. Every wall… every pillar… is a testament to the genius of 11th-century craftsmanship, where engineering and devotion merged into timeless wonder. The side decorations are nothing short of marvellous — patterns and sculptures so intricate, you can almost hear the chisels of artisans from a thousand years ago. Come here not just to see a temple, but to feel the richness of our culture, to stand in awe of what our ancestors built, and to remember the glory we must preserve.

By the grace of God, today went to Pachala someshwara aalayam in Nalgonda and feel very happy and we found there that shiva lingam with Brahma Sutram which is very lucky to have darshan there, I recommend every one to go this temple and get blessings of lord shiva, we need to visit these old temples and should encourage our Hinduism and Sanathana Dharma, another great thing here is about the idol of Ammavaru and find out reason from temple priest which we can’t find by watching ammavari idol, Swamy Nandeeshwar also very big and temple priest is saying that it is one of the biggest nandeeshwar in Telangana
