I was just zooming out Google Earth as a part of my journey from Goa to Kundapur and ended up noticing this place. I am glad that we could visit this place, this is beautiful black sand beach and sand looks exactly like sesame seeds hence the name (in hindi). From the base it takes close to 800m to reach the beach. It's a rocky terrain and I recommend carrying good shoes which we missed though. Beach is bit deep and it's better not to venture into deep water. I also recommend outsiders to visit it in the morning or in groups because place is bit isolated and no one can come to rescue if any untoward incident happens. Don't follow google map routes or there is a location says parking, it will be a problem and there are narrow roads. It's better to spend sometime to look for parking and don't take cars near the location since there is place for only 2 cars. It's a well preserved beach and please maintain the cleanliness and don't throw plastics and love mother nature.

Tilmati beach, black sand beach in Karwar located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The sand here looks like black sesame, which is why the beach is named Tilmati which means sesame (til) and sand (mati) in Konkani. The best part about the beach is you have to trek a bit to reach hence its not easily accessible and unexplored😅.It's a nice getaway and a small treck. We went there in the morning. A small treck along the hillock Black sand beaches are rare sights against the golden sand seen usually. The colour of the sand here is believed to be black because of the natural phenomenon of the waves coming and hitting the basaltic rocks in this area.

A beautiful beach located close to the goa Karnataka border around 2-3kms. Parking space available only for a few motorcycle not convenient for car parking...need to trek for 15-20 minutes over the small hillock (Carry a bottle of water or two coz it's a bit of a walk and please don't forget to carry you plastic waste back)..you do not need a guide or a local the footpath is quite visible now...just follow the foot trail The beach is called tilmati, since it resembles sesame (Black) and Mati as in sand. I have to say this is one of the best beaches i have been too and it's not crowded aswell shaped like a crescent moon with a span of 200 meters.

One of the best beaches to visit in Karwar. The place is in Karnataka and can be reached only through a trek. Way to reach the spot is little tricky and not much direction is provided along the way.

From Karwar, you can take an auto (cost about INR 300). They take you till Majoli beach from where you need to trek about 1.5 KM. Alternative take a GOA Govt bus. If you are taking bus then the stop name is Majoli. Karnataka Govt buses do not stop here. From the bus stop there are Auto available which take you till majoli beach.

Note : you hardly get any auto back from Majoli beach to Main road.

Towards the right end of the beach, is where you see a Shivaji Flag, this is where you start the trek. Just climb the rock and follow a smal trail which leads from one peak to another.

There are couple of places where you need to cross water front.

Not advisable for night trek as there is absolutely no...

The beach is really small, rocks on both sides. It has black sand which is good. But, it's quite a bit dirty ( nets, plastic etc). The climb is a bit difficult( very very narrow, steep at places, a lot of climbing up and down). There are pathways, but difficult to find which pathway to follow. The local villagers are extremely helpful and nice. They helped us with the directions multiple times, else we would have been lost there - giving two stars for them and the trek The trek itself is pretty good too.. definitely not suitable for children or elderly ( we didn't know that and struggled cos we took our kids too) if not for that, the views from the trek were awesome. But the beach itself was very very disappointing... We couldn't bathe there.. it was quite rocky nearby and the beach was very...
