Beach with a 180 degree sea view!
Go to Udwada town and turn to the left towards Kolak village. This side of the beach intersects with the Kolak river. With fresh, brackish and saline water all at the same place along the pathway of the narrow beach, this Estuary cum beach is a birders paradise with large nesting colonies of black headed ibises, little, intermediate and great egrets, and western reef herons. You will also get to see occasional stints, plovers, pipers and gulls. You will find nestings on the trees lined up on the beach. When it's down tide, the parent birds scoop down to forage and sift through the wet sands for fish, crabs, crustaceans, molluscs and shellfish, while the nestlings keep calling the parents for food. It's a sight to behold! Parent birds feeding their young ones, and also fighting for procuring good on the receding sea waters.
It was a Sunday evening when I visited this beautiful beach as part of Amur Falcon Watch 2025 in April. To my surprise, the beach was so calm and peaceful. With just the residents of the few houses that were dotted along the narrow seaface, it was a respite to see a beach so serene and so nearby to Vapi. Apart from the dog walkers, kids playing on the ground adjacent to the beach, you don't find anything else here. No shops, no cafes, no food stalls, no food trucks nothing. Seemed very much like a private beach to me. It's kept very clean. You don't find any plastic or rubbish washed away on the shore. What a pristine luxury to come upon a beach not scattered with food sellers and plastic litter these days. This place definitely makes up for some quality time for families, as they can engage in simple things of life like good old times. Watch birds together, walk along the narrow pathway, cycle along the newly made road along the seaface or just watch the sun going down in all it's golden glory.
This is a place that will take you down memory lane of the nostalgic times spent in your childhood, when life was simpler.
Let's keep this place simple and pristine, for good old sake, and not spoil it's beauty with food trucks, litter, loud music, loud lights and noise as it has a large congregation of birds too.
Just remember, we share this space with them. Let's respect mutual co-existence. If the food trucks arrive, they will stop eating from the sea, and start foraging in the food litter instead. We can always carry some homemade snacks/food in reusable boxes at such pristine places and keep them intact for our future...
