Karkatgarh Waterfall is a mesmerizing natural wonder nestled within the rugged Kaimur Range in Bihar. Situated on the banks of the Karmanasa River in Karkatgarh village of the Chainpur block, this segmented waterfall plunges from a height of around 100 feet and spans a width of nearly 300 feet, offering a breathtaking cascade that changes its character with the seasons.

Historically, the falls held a dual reputation. During the Mughal era and later under British colonial rule, the site was renowned as a crocodile hunting ground. British officials, charmed by its raw beauty, built a dak bungalow overlooking the falls—Henry Ramsay even described it as the finest cascade surrounded by pristine sceneries. Today, however, the waterfall is protected as part of the Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary (established in 1979), and the hunting of wildlife is strictly prohibited, preserving its ecological integrity.

Recent efforts by the Government of Bihar aim to transform Karkatgarh into a major eco-tourism destination. Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a visit in May 2022, directed officials to enhance tourist amenities around the site. His vision includes the development of a well-equipped canteen, sufficient parking facilities, and a forest guesthouse near the falls to cater to the growing number of visitors. Furthermore, the state has been exploring the creation of a crocodile conservation reserve, as early studies reported the presence of about 75 crocodiles in the area—underscoring the falls’ importance as a natural habitat for these reptiles.

Beyond its conservation value, Karkatgarh offers ample opportunities for adventure and relaxation. The perennial, high-velocity water flow creates natural plunge pools ideal for a quick dip during the monsoon. Lush greenery, diverse flora, and a variety of bird species make the surrounding environment perfect for nature walks and birdwatching. Easily accessible via the Bhabua Road railway station on the Howrah–New Delhi Grand Chord and by road from nearby cities like Bhabua and Mohania, Karkatgarh Waterfall stands as a unique blend of historical allure, natural beauty, and ecological...

It is one of the major tourist attraction of Karkatgarh and Sasaram. The waterfalls is located in uphills and it is worth visiting. But the road condition is pathetic. It takes almost 50-60 mins from foot of the hill to reach the place. There is a children's park in the vicinity of the waterfalls. The place is very serene. If anyone is planning to visit Sasaram, then keep this waterfall in your bucket list.

Karkathgarh Lake is a unique form of nature, here you can feel nature closely. This is a tourist place where you can have a picnic. There is also a toilet facility in eco park. The way to Karkathgarh lake goes through the middle of the forest. during which you can also see the wild animal of that. But keep in mind, don't flirt with wild animals at all.. Thankyou
