Located about one and a half mile from the Radha Kund in south west direction, there is a magnificent and massive monumental structure at the backdrop of a huge masonry lake/Kund called Kusuma Sarovar. This exotic splendid building made up of sandstone was erected by Javahir Singh commemorating his father Suraj Mal, the founder of the family who died at Delhi in 1764. The central chhatri (mausoleum) takes the form of square with lofty stone terrace adorned with corner booths and lateral bays. The principal monument which stands in the centre is raised on a richly ornamented plinth. This central chhatri (dome) being a square of 57 feet is flanked on both sides by two other monuments which are comparatively smaller in dimension commemorating the two queens(Hansiya and Kishori) of Raja Suraj Mal. These are supported on a 460 feet long terrace with a long not so deep pavilion which serves as a protective cover at both the ends and nine, two storeyed booths outlined differently in order to have an exceptional front. Behind the building there is an extensive beautiful garden with variety of flowering plants and in the front of the monumental architecture, at the base of terrace, there is masonry tank called Kusuma Sarovar with a series of steps on all four sides leading downwards to the deep water reservoir. The paneled and arcaded walls enclosing the tank on four sides run about 60 feet into the water. Kusuma Sarovar is also known as Sumana Sarovar due to the fact that the lake was formerly surrounded by the beautiful forests full of different flowering plants like beli, champak, chameli etc.
The magnificent building built against the backdrop of Kusuma Sarovar dedicated to Raja Suraj Mal also has the replica of Lord Krishna and Radharani’s lotus feet. The inner part of the building and ceilings of the monument are decorated with the beautiful and fine paintings depicting the pastimes of Lord Radha and Krishna and also the larger paintings depicting the events from the history of the family to which it is dedicated. Apart from architectural magnificence, it has its religious importance for being an explicit part of the celebrated pastimes of Sri Radharani as she used to pick up flowers from here and spend her time here along with her sakhis (friends) and also Lord Krishna on the Ghats of this Kund. It’s said that saint Ashtavakra performed his penances here at this Kund while waiting for the Divine appearance of Lord Radha and Krishna. After having bath in the Kusuma Sarovar Narada Muni attained the body of Gopi with the blessings of Yogmaya Devi. Lord Chaitanya also bathed in the cooling waters of this Kund as it’s believed that one who takes bath in the cooling waters of this Kund/lake attains the pure love of the Supreme Godhead and qualifies for witnessing the eight fold pastimes of Lord Radha...
