Dadhichi kund Category Religious Dadhichi Kund is located about 12 kilometres away from Naimisharanya in the Mishrikh region. It is a belief that the water of all the pilgrimages of the world is Mishrit (mixed) in this kund (pool), hence the name of this area is ”Mishrikh”, and for this reason, it is said that the person who is not able to visit other pilgrimages, he can bathe here and can get the virtue of all the pilgrimages. Dadhichi temple is also near the huge reservoir.
This kund has special significance in Hinduism. The rarest saga of the culmination of charity in Satyuga was written in Naimisharanya only. In the past, a demon named Vritrasura used to trouble 88000 sages in various ways and used to obstruct their penance. It was there in the area of Chaurasi Kos.
All those sages gathered together and reached Devraj Indra to be free from the atrocities of Vritrasura. They all together went to Lord Lakshminarayan.
Then Lord Lakshminarayan said that Vritrasur could be killed only with the Vajra made from the bones of Maharishi Dadhichi.
When Indra and other sages asked Maharishi Dadhichi to donate his bones for the slaughter of Vritrasura, Maharishi Dadhichi expressed his desire to see all the deities by bathing in the water of all the pilgrimages and Dham before the donation. Then Devraj Indra thought that this condition of Maharishi was bizarre because It would take lots of time to come back after circumambulating all the pilgrimages and abodes. Then only he will donate the bones.
At the same time, he meditated on Lord Lakshminarayan. Lakshminarayan appeared in Naimisharanya. Assuring Maharishi Dadhichi, he said that all the deities, pilgrimages, and rivers would be invoked here. You g ive your bones to Devraj Indra by doing nine days of parikrama (circumambulation). Lord Lakshminarayan invited all the deities to 5 Kos. Maharishi Dadhichi circumambulated from Phalgun Pratipada to Navami, doing charity at every place according to the relig ion. On the ninth day, he came in front of Maa Lalita Devi in Naimisharanya. He said that we still needed to bathe in Prayagraj. At that very moment, Lord Vishnu called the five Prayags, established Panch-Prayag by merging five Prayags into one, and told Maharishi Dadhichi what he would get by bath donation in Prayagraj would get it only by sweeping here. After that, the deities created a pool in which the waters of all the pilgrimages and holy rivers mixed. After reaching his place, Maharishi Dadhichi applied a paste of salt and curd all over his body. He then got his body licked by Devraj’s cows and donated his bones to Devraj, which made a Vajra and then killed the demon named Vritrasur Misrikh pilgrimage is 17 km from the district headquarters.
