Mathura, the Braj Bhoomi is not only a sacred place for Hindus but also for Jains. Jain Chaurasi Temple in Mathura stands as a proof to this. This has been constructed in memory of Jambu Swami, who attained nirvana at the age of 84 in Mathura.
Mathura the pilgrimage city is sacred place for all major religions of India like Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, etc. Situated on the banks of River Yamuna, this holy city apart from being the birth place of Lord Shri Krishna is also the place where first Kevali (a tirthankara who preaches and establishes Jain doctrine and order) Anantvirya Bhagvan Bahubali started the Moksha tradition in the chaturtha kaal. He was followed by all the 24 tirthankaras who attained moksha or nirvana through the path for salvation.
Jambu Swami was the last Kevali of Chathurtha Kaal. He belongs to Vaishya Vanshiya and attained nirvana, when he was of 84 years, in Mathura which was encircled by 84 forests in those days. From that day onwards this place was called as Chaurasi which in Hindi means 84 and has become land of peity for Jains. This place was established during the 7th teerthankar Shri Suparshwanath Bhagawan. It is said that the artistic and beautifulย stoopย (pillar) along with the idol of moolnayak Shri Suparshwanath was placed by Kubera Devi who appeared in front of Dharmaruchi and Dharmghosh, theย munisย whose hard prayers have made her happy.
Theย mulnayakย of the present temple is Ajitnath Bhagwan the second teerthankar whoseย pratimaย was discovered during the excavation of land in Gwalior. Theย pratimaย is carved out of beautiful white stone and looks stunning. After theย nirvanaย of Jambu Swami hisย charanย was obtained and placed in the mainย vediย along theย mulnayakย and this temple was constructed. Jain Chaurasi Mandir in Mathura is also called asย Antim Kevali Shri 1008 Jambu Swami Nirvan Sthal Digamber Jain Mandir Chaurasi Mathura. The temple is being managed by Shri Management Committee of Antim Kevali Shri 1008 Jambu Swami Nirvan Sthal Digamber Jain Mandir Chaurasi Mathura.
Apart from the Pratima of Ajithnath Bhagwan and the charan of Jambu Swami, the temple also has shrines of Neminath, Parasnath and Mahavir Bhagwan. The statues of first Kevali Bhahubhali and the antim Kevali Jambu Swami add glory to the temple. These two statues are placed to face each other.
Though many of the monasteries and temples were destroyed by Mughal rulers, some of them stand still and attract pilgrims from every nook and corner of the world. One such temple is Jain Chaurasi Temple in Mathura which is one of the few places of worship of Jain culture and faith in Mathura. This temple is located on the banks of River Yamuna and near a forest. The temple has colourful paintings and inscriptions on the walls portraying the Jain culture and art. There is a big hall in the main temple which can simultaneously hold up to 500 people duringย poojaย andย aarti.

ย ย ย Read moreJai Jinendra! With blessings of Bhagwan teerthankars, we travelled to this teerth kshetra immediately after the 2nd lockdown (due to #Covid19) was lifted. We were travelling from Noida Extension so we took Greater Noida - Yamuna Expressway route with a detour to Vrindavan. Took us about 3 hrs to reach with ample breaks in between.
Pros: Divinity & Mysticism is unparalleled. Lush green surrounding, with chirping of birds esp. Koel and Peacocks truly makes one synced with charm of Mathura. The Pratima Ji in temple is very magical, and touches your soul and spirit instantly. We stayed here overnight. Special callout, the bhojanshala looks very basic but bhojan is outstanding in taste.
Cons: Frequent power cuts, so if you are coming in summers and staying overnight just be prepared. Though you have power back up but only fan operates. Limited supply of cold water/ bottled water at night so plan to buy from local Mathura market before hand. Lots of mosquitoes too.
Covid Protocols: We took AC room and today only they resumed darshan in temple so we luckily got santized AC room. Bathroom is excellent but no provision for hot water (in summers you donโt need one) Per day charges: AC Room 850/- Food: 70/- per plate Tea/Water Bottle - Actuals
Tips for Covid Times: Carry Air Sanitzer and sanitise all essentially points: door knobs, switches, bed, pillows, comforter, bath room. Run AC but keep window pane open for an hour. Carry herbal mosquito repellent. Wear double masks all the time except before retiring in bed. Sanitise your hands at frequent intervals. Gargle with Listerine/other mouth wash at least 3...

I'm writing this review as a warning to others: steer clear of this dharmashala unless you want to ruin your trip. Our stay was a disaster from start to finish.
The washrooms had taps with no running water, making basic hygiene a challenge. The room was filled with dirt and debris, showing a blatant disregard for cleanliness. By morning, the water tank in the washrooms was empty, compounding the issue. To add to the discomfort, there were no doormats in the room.
When we brought these issues to the management's attention, they were dismissive and unhelpful. Instead of addressing our concerns, they shifted the blame to the trust or higher management, showing a clear lack of accountability.
When we requested a room change due to the unbearable conditions, the management quoted an exorbitant price of โน3800 for another room without any guarantee of improvement. This was the final straw.
Our experience was subpar in every way. Given the lack of basic facilities and the management's apathy, I would strongly advise against staying here. If you value your comfort and peace of mind, look elsewhere. This place is not worth the hassle. Never suggest this to anyone if they don't wanna...
