कहते हैं भगवान कण-कण में विद्यमान है। ऐसा ही कुछ इटावा के एक हनुमान मंदिर में देखने को मिलता है, जहां हनुमान जी की जीवित मूर्ति विद्यमान है। शहर से 8 किलोमीटर दूर यमुना के किनारे बीहड़ में बने इस मंदिर में हनुमान जी लड्डू खाते हैं। दूर-दराज से लोग यहां दर्शन के लिए आते हैं। यह मंदिर पिलुआ वाले महावीर के नाम से भी मशहूर है।

मंदिर के पुजारी बताते हैं कि ये हनुमान जी द्वापर युग से हैं।

महाभारत के एक प्रसंग को बताते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि, प्रतापनेर नगर के राजा हुकुमदेव सिंह को तुलसीदास ने इस मूर्ति के बारे में बताया था, तब इसे निकाला गया। राजा हुकुमदेव इस मूर्ति को अपने नगर ले जाना चाहते थे, लेकिन हनुमान जाने को तैयार नहीं थे।

हनुमान जी ने राजा को स्वप्न देकर कहा कि अगर मुझे यहां से ले जाना चाहते हो तो मेरा पेट भर दो।

राजा अभिमान में आकर हनुमान जी को दूध पिलाने लगे, लेकिन पूरे नगर का दूध मंगवाकर भी वो उनका मुखारविंद भर नहीं पाए।

रानी ने क्षमा मांगते हुए श्रद्धा से एक छोटे से लोटे में दूध भरकर हनुमान जी को पिलाया। जिनसे उनका मुखारविंद भरकर तृप्त हो गया।

पुजारी ने बताया कि, पिलुआ वाले महावीर के नाम से इस मंदिर को जो प्रसिद्धी मिली उसके बारे में लोग अधिक नहीं जानते।

पिलुआ एक जंगली पेड़ होता है, जिसकी जड़ के नीचे हनुमान जी दबे हुए थे। राजा ने उन्हें निकलवाया था और वहां एक छोटा सा मंदिर बनवा दिया था तब से इनका नाम पिलुआ वाले महावीर पड़ गया।

पिलुआ वाले महावीर की सबसे बड़ी रहस्यमयी बात उनका मुखारविंद है। इनके मुखारविंद में प्रसाद स्वरूप जो भी लड्डू डाला जाता है वो सीधा उनके अंदर जाता है। वर्षों से ये क्रम ऐसे ही चलता आ रहा है, किसी को नहीं पता आखिर यह जाता कहां है?

प्रत्येक मंगलवार को यहां श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ रहती है और बुढ़बा मंगल को रात 12 बजे के बाद से यहां तिल रखने का स्थान नहीं होता।

दुनिया का शायद ये पहला ऐसा मंदिर होगा जहाँ हनुमान जी जीवित अवस्था में दिखाई देते हैं। इस बात का प्रमाण उनका मुखारविंद स्वयं देता है। वो प्रत्येक पल सांस लेते हुए आज भी देखे जा सकते हैं।
