It is a divine experience to visit this holy shrine. Situated in the foothills of lower Himalaya range known as Shivalik, this is the seat of Mother Goddess Shakumbari Devi. Roughly 42 kms., from Saharanpur town and 15 kms., from Behat, Shakumbari Devi shrine is in erstwhile Jasmour State. While coming from Saharanpur, we leave Delhi-Yamunotri highway at Behat and divert to Shakumbari Devi Road. The all weather road is 15 km., long and ends at Bhura Dev Temple. It is considered necessary to have darshan of Bhura Dev before proceeding to Shakumbari Devi Shrine 1 km further ahead on the bank of river. The river is virtually dry except in rainy season and we have to travel on the river bed upto shrine. During rainy season it is very risky to drive in the river because the force of river flow can topple even a car / tractor or jeep and you don't get time to protect yourself. Many casualties are reported here every year during monsoons.

You can use public transport (pvt. buses) which are available almost every hour from Saharanpur. There are three access roads for the shrine. Those coming from Punjab / Haryana and Saharanpur, take Delhi - Yamunotri Highway from Saharanpur upto Behat. Those coming from Vikas Nagar / Chakrata take the same highway from opposite direction but they do not have to come to Behat because they can get a diversion for the shrine from Mirzapur / Badshahi Bagh village. Finally, those coming from Dehradun / Roorkee / Hardwar / Delhi may take another road from Delhi - Dehradun highway that would take them to the shrine.

There are temporary shops near the shrine where people buy offerings to the Mother Goddess. After having Darshan, devotees enjoy yummmy kadhi chawal at one of the many shops. People regularly organise feast for the poor (like langar organised in Gurudwara). Kadhi -chawal is the most popular item during feast which also...

A Spiritual Sanctuary Amidst the Shivalik Hills

The Siddhpeeth Shri Shakambhari Devi Temple, located near Jasmour village in Behat tehsil, about 40 km north of Saharanpur, is a revered Shakti Peeth of North India. Set amidst the serene slopes of the Shivalik range, this divine temple honors Mother Shakambhari, an incarnation of Goddess Durga known for her power to nourish and rejuvenate.

Legend has it that during a period of severe famine, Goddess Shakambhari appeared and provided sustenance to life by consuming only a single vegetable per month for a century—hence her name. The symbolic significance of her nourishment endures through the presence of lush flora around the temple today.

Devotees customarily begin their pilgrimage at the Baba Bhura Dev temple, located about 1 km before the main shrine, as it is believed to be the guardian deity of Shakambhari.

Inside the sanctum sanctorum are the divine idols of Shakambhari Devi, accompanied by Bhima Devi, Bhramari Devi, and Shatakshi Devi. The spacious complex features ancient shrines, sacred groves, streams like the holy Ban Ganga, and numerous lesser temples around the precinct.

The temple is open daily from early morning (5:00 AM) to evening (9:30 PM), hosting particularly vibrant crowds during Navratri and Diwali, when pilgrims flock in lakhs seeking blessings and fulfillment of wishes.

The location, enveloped by pristine hills and fresh mountain air, offers quiet solace and spiritual upliftment. Facilities such as dharamshalas and basic food arrangements are available at reasonable cost.

In summary, Shaktipeeth Shri Shakambhari Devi Temple is not just a majestic place of worship; it’s a timeless center of devotion and divine grace. Whether on a spiritual quest or a nature-inspired escape, this sacred site promises a deeply serene and...

A popular temple🛕 of the Goddess exists near the Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan and another one is located in Badami, of Bagalkot District of Karnataka. The Shakumbhari temple is an important religious and spiritual center which is widely visited by people from all over the world 🌎🌍.

It was at this very place that the Mother Goddess Shakumbhari is believed to have slain the once mighty demon king Mahishasura who terrorized the world with his evil deeds. The Goddess, while doing penance partook of only vegetarian food (Shakahari) once a month during this period and thus the temple came to be associated with vegetarianism, with many Hindu devotees following this practice till today.

Sometime during the early 1960s, a covered corridor connecting the entrance gate and outer verandah was constructed. Shakumbhri Devi Temple The temple is on the site of the ruins of a more ancient temple and was constructed by the Pundir Rajputs under Rana Bahadur Singh Pundir who was the representative of the Pundirchief Rana Pitambar Singh Pundir of Jasmour.[1]Though it is not an ancient temple, its devotees consider it to be a Shakti Peetha, a powerful seat of Shakti, the divine feminine.[2] The devotees have a strong faith in the Goddess and the temple attracts a large number of devotees from India as also from outside the country particularly during the Navratree days. The temple is well maintained and is well laid out to have full darshan of the idols in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. It is found from the plaque displayed near the staircase that it was during the early 1960s that a properly covered corridor, connecting the main entrance gate and outer varandah of the temple, was constructed for the convenience and comfort of the devotees. This work was done, with the permission of the Ranas of Jasmour who own the temple, by one Shri Radha Kishan, then Treasurer of the erstwhile Kalsia State (Chhachhrauli)(presently in Yamunanagar District of Haryana)from his personal contribution and also by collecting donations from several devotees. It is indeed an experience of life to visit the main temple as also the nearby Bhuradev Temple seeking their blessings and benedictions. It is rightly said that a visit to these temples with faith and devotion always brings great satisfaction, rewards and contentment in life and family. These temples are easily approachable by road or train from different parts of the country and their location is surrounded by hills and serene environment Matter Source Wikipedia

This is a famous pilgrimage. Goddess Shakumbhri devi is an incarnation of Maa bhawani. She is our kul devi and adhishthatri. When a baby (He baby or She baby) attains age of 6 months their head is shaved and cut hairs are offered in the feet of kul devi. It is believed that after performing this ritual the child gets long, silky and shiny dense hairs. The child also receives blessings of devi , performing this ritual. Lakhs of devotees pay a visit to this place during Navratri. The temple of goddess Shakumbhari is situated in a village , so there is no place to stay overnight. The nearest comfortable place to stay is Saharanpur city which is just 43 km away. The roads are good. Today Me and my wife came here from Bangalore and offered my granddaughter's hairs in the feet of our kul devi 🙏
