Benog Wildlife Sanctuary, Mussoorie Overview A part of the Rajaji National Park, the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is located around 11km from the Library End Road in Mussoorie. Famous for its almost-extinct mountain quails, deer, leopards and red-billed blue magpie, the Wildlife Sanctuary is well known to house rare species of birds and offers an excellent trail of pine-clad slopes surrounded by Himalayan peaks for a refreshing walk. It is an ideal site for bird watching and capturing gorgeous views of the surrounding Chaukhamba and Bandarpunch Peaks.
Apart from housing the fir and pine trees, the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary also hides some medicinal plants. Also known as Vinog Mountain Quail Sanctuary, it is spread across 339 hectares. The abundant wildlife paired with stunning views of the enveloping scenic vistas makes Benog Wildlife Sanctuary a must visit, especially for the nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
Since the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is situated quite close to Mussoorie, you can easily reach here by taxi. However, keep in mind that local transport is not easily available near the wildlife sanctuary site, so either hire a full day taxi or leave early to allow for some buffer time. You can also trek to the sanctuary from a nearby hiking point.

   Read moreI visited this place on 3rd October, 2020 with my brother at around 10 Am from Rishikesh, but the entrance gate was closed as forest rangers were visiting that place that particular day🙄🙄..... and the boy(who guards the gate) said that only people who has prior permission from the DFO will be allowed to visit inside and right their, there is a family (husband, wife and their baby) visiting from Dehradun who works in FRI, so that guard called some supervisor and she says I didn't know that this place is closed, we stayed the night to visit the temple please le us in...... So, she says ki is family ko jaane do but we (me and my brother) is not allowed... !!!!! I'm writing this review, I know that government employees doesn't care of these Public reviews or anything because they think that there job is permanent that is not a case now, I had my Covid negative test with me and when you can allow 1 person and not other(my father also served at boarder for 35 years), seriously this is so called Bhai bhandi😳😳...
