Lord Bhadraj is considered to be the deity of cattle herders of Pachhwadun, Mussoorie, and Jaunsar region. According to Hindu beliefs, in the Dwapar era, when Lord Balarama, in the guise of a sage, was coming out of this region, at that time a terrible disease of animals was spread in this region. Seeing Rishi Muni coming out of the area, people stopped him and started requesting him to cure the animals.

Then Balram ji cured their animals. People hailed him and requested him to stay here, then Baba stayed with him for some time. And blessed him that in Kalyug I will live here in the name of Bhadraj Devta in the temple. It is said that even today Lord Balabhadra protects his animals.

I visited Bhadraj Temple in September with a rented bike. It was a long but rewarding trek of 11 km from Clouds End, Mussoorie. The weather was foggy and chilly, but it added to the mystic charm of the place. The temple is dedicated to Lord Bal Bhadra, the brother of Lord Krishna. It is believed that he meditated here after the Mahabharata war and blessed the people and the cattle of the region.

The temple was almost empty when I reached there, except for a few locals and priests. I felt a sense of peace and tranquility as I entered the temple. The white marble structure contrasted beautifully with the green hills and the blue sky. The temple offers a stunning view of the Doon Valley, the Shivalik ranges, and the Himalayan peaks.

Pros :

It is a serene and spiritual place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a great spot for trekking and nature lovers, as the trail passes through forests, meadows, and streams. It is a part of the Badrinath Temple, and the devotees who visit here get the same blessings as those who visit Badrinath . It hosts a fair every year in August, where the local culture and traditions are showcased.

Cons :

It is not easily accessible by road, and one has to trek for about 11 km to reach the temple. It is not very well-known among tourists, and there are not many facilities or amenities nearby. It can get very cold and foggy in the winter months, and the visibility can be low. It is not allowed to visit the temple after consuming eggs, meat, or alcohol.
