Chandi Ghat, Haridwar: Detailed Review
Chandi Ghat, located in Haridwar, is a newly constructed ghat that holds significant spiritual and cultural importance. It is one of the ghats along the holy Ganga River, where pilgrims come to take a sacred dip, believing it purifies them of their sins. Chandi Ghat is named after Goddess Chandi, and it lies close to the famous Chandi Devi Temple, adding to its religious value.
Spiritual and Cultural Significance: Chandi Ghat is a relatively peaceful place compared to some of the more crowded ghats like Har Ki Pauri. It is a great spot for pilgrims looking for a quieter place to perform rituals and prayers by the river. The ghat is often used for Ganga Aarti, a spiritual ceremony where devotees worship the river with lit lamps and prayers, similar to the one conducted at Har Ki Pauri but on a smaller, more intimate scale.
Cleanliness and Maintenance: The ghat is generally well-maintained, and efforts have been made to keep the area clean and tidy for visitors. However, like many places in Haridwar, it can get crowded during festival seasons and pilgrimage periods. The local authorities have taken steps to improve the infrastructure around the ghat, making it easier for tourists and pilgrims to access the area.
Accessibility: Chandi Ghat is accessible from various parts of Haridwar, and it's situated in a serene location away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are local guides and priests available to help visitors with their religious rituals and explain the significance of the place.
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Chandi Ghat is early morning or during the evening aarti. The atmosphere during these times is tranquil, and you can witness the spirituality that Haridwar is known for. The sunrise and sunset views over the Ganga River are also breathtaking.
Nearby Attractions: Chandi Ghat is close to other religious landmarks like Chandi Devi Temple, which can be accessed by a ropeway. The ghat also provides a good starting point for those planning to visit Mansa Devi Temple or Har Ki Pauri, all of which are integral to the pilgrimage circuit in Haridwar.
Final Thoughts: Chandi Ghat offers a quieter, more peaceful alternative to the bustling ghats of Haridwar. It is a beautiful and spiritually uplifting place, where the essence of Haridwar's religious importance can still be felt without overwhelming crowds. However, like many parts of the city, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and take care of personal belongings when visiting.
If you are seeking a serene and spiritually significant experience by the Ganga, Chandi Ghat is definitely...

Chandi Ghat is located on the opposite side of Har ki Paudi, (not exactly adjacent, but nearby) so if you decide to visit the famous ghat of yesteryears that is 'Har ki Paudi', then you should definitely visit Chandi Ghat. Chandi Ghat has been recently renovated ( in a long spanning 5 years project under the banner of Namami Gange) and houses all the essentials which one expects in a new modern Ghat/ River banks.
There is spacious and free parking and the that in itself is very vast and well maintained plus it is "wheelchair friendly" as well. Of Course the cleanliness part depends more so on the visitors than the maintenance authorities, so try to keep the ghat clean whenever you visit. There is lots of space where you can sit and relax by the Ganges in the Ghat. There are multiple changing rooms and a washroom and drinking water facility inside the ghat premises.
The main attraction which however adds novelty to this ghat is the "Ganga Avlokan" centre which has been recently inaugurated (over video conference) by our Hon'bl Prime Minsiter on 29th Sep 2020. This centre presents a kaleidoscopic view of the journey of Ganga from its source at Gangotri to its final resting grouds at Gangasagar. It beautifully explains the flora and fauna of the region and the various steps taken by government for cleaning the Ganga River in the form of scale models. There is also a souvenir shop which sells various souvenir items prepared by "ganga praharis" that is the volunteers who are engaged directly in saving Ganga from further pollution. There is also a cafeteria which serves hygienic and delicious snacks such as samosa, parathe, chhole, tea, cold drinks etc. The timings are from 10 am to 5 pm.
There is Chandi Mata Temple, Kalimata temple and Chila dam nearby which falls inside the boundaries of Rajaji National Park. There is a 50 Rs. Car pass which one has to take to go inside Rajaji National Park area. Do visit this scenic dam while you plan to visit Chandi Ghat.
