Dhari Devi temple is located on main highway at left side while travelling from Sri Nagar (of Uttarakhand) to Rudraprayag. Dhari Devi is located on the banks of the Alakananda river at 13 km away from Srinagar dedicated to Goddess Kali. We travelled from Rudra Prayag to Dev Prayag and got drop at this place to get Devi Blessings. This temple is one of the 108 Shakti sthals as numbered by Shrimad Devi Bhagwat. There is a legend about the name behind the Dhari Devi temple. Once the temple was washed off by floods and the idol of Goddess Kali struck against the rock. The villagers of the Dharo village nearby heard the Devine voice of Goddess and then fixed the idol of Goddess Kali at the spot where the temple now stands. This incident gave rise to the name of the temple as Dhari Devi temple. Local people believes that 2013 Uttarakhand floods are happened due to Goddess's Wrath as This Dhari Devi deity was shifted from her Mool Stan. Mool Stan means Original abode. On the day of 16th Jun 2013, Engineers were working on a project and uprooted the idol of the goddess to make way for a 330 megawatt hydro Project at Srinagar. With in few hours, a severe cloudburst took place which resulted in devastating floods and landslides washing away town.
