Baleshwar Temple: This temple complex is built by the kings of Chand dynasty during 10th to 12th century AD dedicated to Lord Shiva and Champawati Durga. The architecture of the temples is based on south Indian stone carving work. The site is being looked after by The Archaeological Survey of India but maintenance of the temple complex needs to be taken care in priority to save the history of the region and kumoun. Local populace of the area gets to gather at Balewhwar temple complex every year on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri in which many old people also likes to take bath in the fresh water spring of the complex as per their old belief to this place. God Baleshwar is incarnation of Lord Shiva as per belief and mythology. The exterior of temple is carved with the different statues of local deities. State and Central Govt must take attention of the situation of the temple, to give a boost to tour and travel industry. उत्तराखण्ड राज्य के चम्पावत नगर में स्थित बालेश्वर मंदिर भगवान विष्णु को समर्पित एक प्राचीन मंदिर समूह है, जिसका निर्माण 10-12 ईसवीं शताब्दी में चन्द शासकों ने करवाया था। इस मंदिर की वास्तुकला काफी सुंदर है। मन्दिर समूह चम्पावत नगर के बस स्टेशन से लगभग 100 मीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है। राज्य के चम्पावत नगर में स्थित बालेश्वर मंदिर भगवान विष्णु को समर्पित एक प्राचीन मंदिर समूह है, जिसका निर्माण 10-12 ईसवीं शताब्दी में चन्द शासकों ने करवाया था। इस मंदिर की वास्तुकला काफी सुंदर है। मन्दिर समूह चम्पावत नगर के बस स्टेशन से लगभग 100मीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है। मुख्य मन्दिर बालेश्वर महादेव (विष्णु) को समर्पित है। लगभग 200 वर्ग मीटर फैले मन्दिर परिसर में मुख्य मन्दिर के अतिरिक्त 2 मन्दिर और स्थित हैं, जो रत्नेश्वर तथा चम्पावती दुर्गा को समर्पित हैं। मन्दिरों के समीप ही एक नौले का भी निर्माण किया गया है। बालेश्वर मंदिर परिसर उत्तराखंड के राष्ट्रीय संरक्षित स्मारकों में से एक है। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण देहरादून मण्डल द्वारा इसकी देख-रेख के लिए कर्मचारी नियुक्त किये गये हैं। पुरातत्व विभाग की देख-रेख में बालेश्वर मंदिर परिसर की स्वच्छता एवं प्रसिद्ध बालेश्वर नौले के निर्मल जल को संरक्षित किया गया है। उपलब्ध ताम्र पत्रों में अंकित विवरणों के अनुसार इसका निर्माण काल सन् 1272 ईसवी माना जाता है। लोकमान्यता है कि महाभारत काल में बाली द्वारा यहां पर असुरों से सुख शान्ति के लिए शिव पूजन किया गया जिस कारण इसे बाली + ईश्वर - बालेश्वर नाम दिया गया। बालेश्वर मन्दिर का निर्माण चन्द शासन काल में माना जाता है। कालांतर में सन् 1420 में राजा ध्यानचन्द ने अपने पिता ज्ञान चन्द के पापों से प्रायश्चित के लिए बालेश्वर मंदिर का जीर्णाेद्वार कराया। मंदिर समूह के निर्माण में बलुवा तथा ग्रेनाइट की तरह के पत्थरों का प्रयोग किया गया है। मूलतः शिखर शैली पर निर्मित बालेश्वर मंदिर ठोस चिनाई के जगत पर आधारित है। गर्भगृह तथा मंडप की छतों पर कालिया मर्दन अंकित हैं, और बाहरी दीवारों पर ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश तथा अन्य देवी-देवताओं का अंकन किया गया है।

Baleshwar, 76 kms. from Pithoragarh, situated at Champawat is the most artistic temple of the district. There are evidences that the group of temples dedicated to Baleshwar, Ratneshwar and Champawati Durga were built by the early kings of the Chand dynasty. The temple once had intricate structural features and a sanctuary with a mandap. The intricate carving still visible on the ceilings of these temples is an evidence of their ancient glory and artistic excellence.

The temple is a hidden gem. It has so many intricate carvings on it. I wish it had someone who explain the carvings on the temple. It has a hanuman mandir adjacent to it. The beat time to visit here is early morning, probably you would be the only person here and can have time exploring and trying to figure out the carvings on the temple. It is well connected to the main champawat stand. Walking distance from there, hidden into a small street (gully)

This is Mahadev temple located at Lohagad, Champawat District, Uttarakhand. It is located in heart of the city on bazar or mall road. Vehicle parking is little far away but police staff was cordial to take care and control the traffic. The temple has a lot of historical value as per Indology and has archeological value. But GoI or ASI department is not taking care of security arrangements for its preservation.

Baleshwar Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Shiva, situated within city of Champawat in Uttarakhand, India. Built by the rulers of the Chand dynasty, Baleshwar Temple is a marvelous symbol of stone carving. It is believed to have been built in 13th century AD by Garud Gyan Chand.
